If you go to:
...\Steam\userdata\(YourUserID)\1203620\remote
You should find inside that folder a bunch of files

some consist of names with "3ad85aea" and "characters"

if that's correct, can you .zip the whole "Remote" folder and drag it here?

if you are joining someone else's world, however, I would need to have that person's world data instead.

The bad news is that the issue that you have is something that should be fixed and shouldn't appear again. That's a bad from our side.
The good news is that we fixed your save state manually, so it should work now.
