#Having trouble getting the correct

Let's back up, do you have SteamCMD installed?
Yes I have the steamcmd command prompt window open
I typed in help and got a list of things I can do
It also says... "Steam>"
okay
+login anonymous
+force_install_dir "ENSHROUDED SERVER DIRECTORY"
+app_update 2278520 validate
those are the broken up commands, I beleive
Not when you drop into the SteamCMD CLI
If you run that line in a command line, or a batch file; you can feed the entire thing
getting hung up anywhere?
The second command where it says "Ensrouded Server Directory" thats where I put in my server correct?
yeah, whereever it's installed; or you can specify a new directory
Or the name of my server
I would assume thats in the "savegame" default
Yeah, that world save will always persist -- whats weird, is they're named the same for every map
Gotcha
Okay so let me try this again
So when I use the force install it says...
"Please use force_install_dir before logon"
oh, that's OK
Okay so now to the next prompt
correct
okay reconfiguring
Next part should start the update download
Yes a lot of lines
good
very good, so what directory did you specify in the force_install
yeah you can quit the SteamCMD CLI
"savegame"
Okay I just quit steamcmd
Now do I still go through and open my server cmd?
Yes, It needs a first time run. navigate to the directory where it installed
K
mmm, was your input this, verbatim: +force_install_dir "savegame" ?
Yeah...that's going to be bad isn't it?
It's not optimal
Because it just installed Server files to (whatever directory you ran SteamCMD)\savegame
Okay, so to locate those files?
Yeah, you might delete those and re-install in a more logical directory
Okay so should I just go through the process again and when I get to the directory save it to my HD where I have my game
Yes, that makes more sense
Just make sure you do like "E:\enshrouded"
Right, okay
Otherwise if you just specify "E:" the files will dump to the root of that directory
(not clean)
Gotcha
Should I save it to my "enshroudedserver" folder that I have created? That would work right?
You bet.
Okay going to try again.
C:\steamcmd\steamcmd +login anonymous +force_install_dir "E:\enshroudedserver" +app_update 2278520 validate +quit
This is what you would paste directly into a windows CMD prompt
Thanks for your help!
well, IF you located SteamCMD to C:\Steamcmd
Remember, you have to run the server once then close it to generate the .json file.
You will want to start using the new directory you specified in your latest force_install
So you can copy over your old .json, or just edit the new one.
When I do the force install script do I just put e:\ "with the final destination folder" I put in way more than that and I got the "Please use force_install_dir before logon" response
Yeah, you can ignore that message
But, you need to be specifiying a directory that makes sense
Well it has a few subfolders. The final destination for this folder in my steamlibrary main folder etc
So if I get that "Please use force_install_dir before logon" response ignore it and move to the next step?
yep
K
It's a SteamCMD bug..
Correct,
Okay, catch me up, did you get the .json file edited for the new server
yes I put in the specifics name of server password etc
good, now you can stop the server -- click in the CMD box and hit CTRL+C
Now we need to locate the \savegame directory from your Steam thick client installation
e.g. your first world
Okay
I think I have the file
Although I renamed that folder to the new one and it may have overwritten the old file..😱
they are the same names
yeah
well I have to save files with the same name
one in one folder one in another
Can I move my local world to a dedicated server?
Yes. Ensure that you are copying the desired world. When putting on the dedicated server make sure to rename the files to 3ad85aea specifically.
I do have a backup from last night
cool. copy that in, and remove the .backup
Wait it's a text document... it's just a log
ope
How big should a save file be?, I feel like this one is not that big that may be my possible save
I was going to suggest, that's how you should see - file size
as long as the server isnt running, that's correct. you want to overwrite the smaller file
Okay so I will shut down the server
eyyyyy
Ty so much!
NOW, before you go
Next time there's an update, you'll need to run that SteamCMD script -- and it needs to have thge correct Directory (your newest one)
Gotcha...so basically go through the same process again
Always Stop the Server when you do the update too
Gotcha
Yep. and instead of installing, it will update this time
and you wont have to mess with the gamesave
Oh good!
alright man, cheers
Appreciate it!
