@stray wyvern Using the guide you sent me, is this how i'd have to divide him?

#

Or is the red line too low?

solar flicker
#

Red line feels a little low, think to the center of the waist is where you should put the line, another issue is that the feet are also not flat on the ground, requiring foreshortening

#

unless if you're working for a lengthier character, I'd advise to change it

#

still, good art

shell leaf
#

He is supposed to be very lanky, but I'd still like to maintain proportions. Make his limbs as long as much as his height allows him to.

solar flicker
#

Then I'd say you can keep it

shell leaf
solar flicker
#

still, humans aren't perfectly the same anatomy and scale with eachother

#

so you can have longer arms while having smaller legs

shell leaf
#

That's true, I noticed some peoples have short torsos but long legs. Like tribes in Oceania and Africa

solar flicker
#

yeah, feminine bodies have wider hips than manly bodies generally

shell leaf
#

That's true

#

And I noticed his physique turned out looking like Willie's

#

Which is a good sign

solar flicker
#

yeah, willie is a very slim, very lengthy person

shell leaf
#

I wonder whether increasing the arm length as opposed to shortening the legs would resolve the legs-too-long issue.

stray wyvern
#

The line should be around the bottom of the pelvis

#

Looks good to me but Ima come back from my walk and take a better look

shell leaf
#

Just curious on what to do with the arms, to leave or edit them. Because in lanky bodytypes like here the arms sag low

#

Or would I have to account that my guy's arms are being bent in the art

errant hatch
#

The character’s right knee looks a bit higher than the other knee. Makes the right shin look longer than the left shin. (Right from character perspective, not viewer)

stray wyvern
#

alright i drew this with my mouse so its kinda bad

#

the thigh from the crotch to the bottom of the knee is around two heads long

#

bottom of the knee to the ball of the foot is another two heads

shell leaf
#

wowowow thanks

#

I'll have to decipher this

#

🫡

stray wyvern
#

lol ask what ever you need

#

Body proportions do vary tho

#

so some people have longer legs and shorter torsos

shell leaf
#

xd

shell leaf
stray wyvern
#

Pretty good :D

errant hatch
#

Good luck, and have fun with your craft 🤙

shell leaf
#

Thanks

stray wyvern
#

this is the classic proportion rule thingy

#

I dont really use it as much as I should

Seraphim angel

the ideal soviet chad

shell leaf
#

So the knees are on one level?

#

Like this?

errant hatch
# shell leaf Like this?

Yes just about, if the character is standing upright, knees should be lined up (not necessarily parallel, as perspective demands)

shell leaf
#

5 including his feet

#

oops [2]

stray wyvern
#

line is a litte below, but honestly I think the proportions look a lot better!

#

Yeah the legs still look a little long but I think it also fits the character of a an animal pretty well

errant hatch
stray wyvern
#

It is a prettttyyy good drawing mang

shell leaf
#

True, but I'm just wondering whether they're too long as opposed to just long.

#

And thanx appreciate all of your help

errant hatch
#

I think the legs are a good length, quite proportionate to the arms

shell leaf
#

I hope ahahaha

stray wyvern
#

this is around where the feet would land with the thingy I sent, but I kinda like it with the longer legs more

shell leaf
#

I just roughly edited it/rescaled legs to be a tad shorter. Looks like this

stray wyvern
#

Perfect length!

shell leaf
#

Perfect

errant hatch
#

Yeah looks great

charred totem
#

Was gonna comment that despite not quite knowing why, my brain thought the original's legs were too long or too big or something

shell leaf
#

That's good to know, now I feel more confident about the proportions. But now I'm curious as to whether he still appears lanky or not ahahah

charred totem
#

Lanky but toned

#

Not like Willie

shell leaf
#

Lanky is somewhat toned too

#

i mean

#

willie is somewhat toned*

charred totem
#

Willie's like malnourished toned, yours looks nourished

shell leaf
#

Yes he's a very well-fed noble....

errant hatch
#

Lanky is good for the body type going on

charred totem
#

Yeah

#

He a goat, or a deer?

#

Oh wait, I see the full horns now

shell leaf
#

He is meant to be an ibex. But he looks more like a deer.

#

Getting the fur markings for an ibex is tough as all pictures of one I find seem to have different fur

#

that or i'm just not very good at coloring 😁

tepid widget
#

Well, still looks good

shell leaf
#

Thanks. Appreciate it

tepid widget
#

Are you trying to draw em in a sort of medieval style?

shell leaf
#

Ahaha I don't know

#

If you mean whether I'm going for a medieval art style e.g. this, then no. I can't draw like that

#

If you mean whether the character is supposed to be in a medieval setting, then yes

#

Interesting

Nothing that pops out too much, just subtle

shell leaf
#

but i'll never reach the masters of the old

tepid widget
#

Seems easy enough

#

(I cant even draw a straight line)

tepid widget
#

I’m curious about the lore behind him

shell leaf
#

Maybe I could share in Dms because I initially created the thread for feedback on proportions and what to change

tepid widget
#

Oh yeah- probably a good idea

shell leaf
#

@stray wyvern How well versed are you in medieval civilian attire?

#

or any1 in dis thread... need help with hosen + braies

stray wyvern
#

I know the basics. What do you need help with?

shell leaf
#

Because I'm unsure whether they should be higher or if this is OK positioning. I saw contemporary art depicting braie/underwear differently

#

Like in the first picture they sit low. On the second one, they look as though they'd be just under the belly button and not too low

stray wyvern
#

I think is good. looks like it’s being supported by the bottom of the hip where the pelvis starts which would make sense. The first picture just looks like it’s sagging a little more which is a cool effect but I doubt there is any rule for it

#

Out of my depth tho! Sometimes I ask questions to this discord since there are a lot of smart folks there

#

Oh I can’t send links
