#Adaptive Multiplier Cap

I have a game which runs anywhere from 150fps to 250fps. I want to use Adaptive frame generation to keep it locked to 360fps to match my monitor, but I don't want the adaptive FG to increase past 2x. I'd rather it keep 360hz when above 180fps, but I don't want it to use 3x+ FG when below half.

That's it really lol. Some older games can be HIGHLY variable from place to place. I think 3x FG is fine but I think sometimes I would rather just lose out on a couple extra generated frames to avoid the temporary increase in input delay.

Then use x2 fixed and cap the game at 180

I'd rather have the extra real frames. Cutting out 70fps for 180x2 isn't worth it IMO. It's most often around 220fps.

Especially if it's sometimes dropping to about 150fps. With Adaptive and a multiplier cap, you'd still get the extra real frames when available. Locked 180x2 would still drop to 150-ish sometimes anyway.

You get a lot less real frames with adaptive

But yeah, I get it

Yes I know lol

Generally I try to use the standard multiplier for that reason. But I have a 9800x3D and 5080 so I get a lot of games which are limited by one or the other

Older games like Borderlands 2 are EXTREMELY variable lol. Like 120fps in places to 400fps.

The classic COD Zombies games are nice with FG I think. Even though my PC can easily beef over 360fps in all those games, (WAW BO1 BO2), those games start to break above 200fps for some reason. So locking them to 200fps and using 1.8x FG is super nice.

Do you actually notice considerable latency and/or artifacts with 180 base FPS generated to 360?

Generally no. But I'd still like the extra real frames if I can get them. Like I was saying, even with a 180fps lock the CPU performance is so inconsistent that it still gets moments of 150fps or lower. I would just prefer in that case it just sticks with x2 FG for 300hz. Personally.
