Im not that far on the tech tree, so I dont have the unmanned flight node unlocked. Do you think I could build satelites with the first 2 antennas you get and the stayputnick command module. Id just like to know what works and what doesnt. My Base is in the dark zone when it comes to being able to radio back and forth to kerbin.

You need Relay Transmitters to make a connection with KSC.
1 Base Needs any transmitter
2 probe in orbit needs a relay transmitter (ideally 3 probes in high orbit for complete mun surface converge)
3 either KSC facing the mun or a KSC relay network as well.
If you are okay with mods, Relay Science (allows you to transfer science data / not samples/ from one ship to another) so as the relay orbits the Mun you can then transfer to the dark side. Vs. Having to have a complete connection to the KSC, note you’ll still need control so Kerbals are needed in the chain.
3rd option, Kerbals can take science and you can return them to Kerbin with said science.
Later there are return science parts that you can store science in and return a probe with the science in it.
Later you can use a lab to process the science remotely.
