define "unplayable"

it's rather average for me to lose around 60% of my fps looking at moons and planets

if not try redownloading the game

@analog blaze could you please give us a screenshot of your info so that we can know for sure you are above the min bar?

In windows – hit the Winkey (⊞ Win) to bring up the start menu and type in: dxdiag

This will bring up the DirectX Diagnostic Tool. The first tab (System) will show your system model, processor, and memory. (screenshot that and post it - the Snipping Tool works great for this)

THEN - The other tabs will give you information about your displays and video cards. If you have multiple monitors or a laptop connecting to a monitor – then you might have to click on the last display tab to see the correct video card information. Just get a screenshot of the important stuff

Ah... I just saw your post in ksp2_general - you have a

Intel(R) Arc(TM) A380 Graphics

I'm not super familiar with those but a quick search on the web gave me:

Intel Arc A380 is equivalent to a GTX 1650 Super

And that is not above recommended settings (in fact it's below the minimum bar). I don't know all the other details of your computer, but that could likely be why you are having these issues. With more info though - others here might be able to help.

Thanks for the input - really appreciate it.

That's why we don't block anyone below min requirements. Just too many variables for performance. BUT... if someone is below the bar - that's when we typically see the big issues.

When someone is above the bar with issues, that's when we really want to do a deeper dive.

This has been broken since day 1. It is a fragment shader complexity issue. There is also a lot of bottlenecks on texture reads. See my posts on twitter about this https://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/215173-surface-rendering-fragment-shaders-are-inefficient/#comment-4260441
