Is it possible to create a first payment to setup recurring payments, using Payments API, for the SEPA Incasso method?

hi! Yes you can!
So it's 2 steps:

  1. A first payment (by Create Payment, sequenceType=first, custeromId set) to create a SEPA mandate.
  2. option a: Create Subscription. Mollie will then orchestrate the charges ("tic logic")
2 option b: On-demand Charges (Create Payment, sequencetype=recurring, custeromId and mandateId set)

See https://docs.mollie.com/payments/recurring
Pay attention to what payment method, when used in first payment, leads to a SEPA mandate!

Just to be clear: for SEPA mandates/recurring payments, the first payment will not be method=SEPA, as that's not really possible. But if you take iDeal / Giropay / Bancontact / ... as first payment, Mollie creates a SEPA mandate for you to use!

Ahh okay. So if I set sequenceType=first, and method=ideal, then that will also create a SEPA mandate?

@cerulean crow I'm a bit confused right now... I know a dealer who works via Mollie where I only have to provide my account details. He can then immediately withdraw money from my account via SEPA... Without firstPayment via another payment method...

Hi @regal cosmos - That is correct. For SEPA mandates only, you can also use the Create Mandate API: https://docs.mollie.com/reference/v2/mandates-api/create-mandate

With that API, you can send the details to create a mandate for SEPA accordantly.

Just an important headsup: you (or your merchant) are then responsible for evidance in case of a MOI (Melding Onterecht Incasso) since we do not have proof of a "signature" anymore
