I don’t think having it be a death sentence is a good idea. We have plenty of rare, expensive/exotic materials like sulphurite, why not instead have a cure that either costs a whole bunch or has a high skill recipe to craft. You shouldn’t need a modified diving mask, the normal diving mask is already airtight.
