"Oh I need to repair that hatch but there's a mud raptor in the way, oh well I better die trying anyway!"- a dead engineer

I don't know how they work but is it impossible for the NPCs to just run away when there is an enemy in their path? Having to give my entire crew a gun so they don't get chewed on is something else. Giving them all guns does sorta fix it though so it's not the biggest issue ever.

for me, even giving them guns they still wind up dying

giving guns is often worse cuz they try to "fight" (shoot you in the back while you try to kill the enemies)

Like honestly, just give them a flee order or something

#

It’s definitely possible, as when I’m murdering outposts and kidnapping people for organs and such(I LOVE NEUROTRAUMA!), once I’ve dealt with the security staff all the random civilians start running

giving the AI an order to flee from anay danger would be perfect

the situations it manages to get into way outnumbers whatever a normal AI expects to handle

Being able to give them more orders would be great: More variety and a longer list in the order menu.

Being able to basically program them with "if"-statements would be the best thing ever.

And if they had sensible pathing and raytracing for combat situations as to stop friendly fire that would be swell. Right now they are more of a liability than an asset in combat.

Honestly for now all they need do to not make the AI terrible in combat is a flee command, like “if in room with hostile creature = true, leave room”

we need more ways to command them

#

like choosing 3 npcs at once and having a "control turrets" command

#

and the npcs are just chosen randomly for each submarine gun

#

or u can choose a gun for every npc

#

and it's selected in the order u chose the npcs

Having an option (e.g. in the fabricator) to let an NPC craft something would be great as well.

Also, predefining a threat behaviour (e.g. the doctor should run to the next room if there are intruders, the security officer should always equip armor and a weapon and put themselves between an intruder and other crew) would save a lot of time for the occasions when there isn't enough time for giving complex orders.
