Sometimes, when im making a new sub i ask myself why do i need two wires on the same pin i drive power to other stuff, to connect each junction box? Using one to get the power in from the reactor and one to get it out to another junction, or junction to junction.
This makes so you can only set 3 more wires to get the power out from (I know about the use of Relay Component but sometimes i just want one more wire to connect to).
The way this could be implemented is by having another connection pin on the connection panel (maybe named Power_Junction) just for connecting the junctions. The way this could work would be similar as the guns needing supercapacitors to drive the power from, the same thought could be applied to the pin that is made to get the power from the reactor and gives the power from one junction to another in one pin (Power_Junction), effectively letting you connect 5 wires to drive power for other things from the normal power pin.
This could also be an optional pin for people that don't want to be forced to "rewire" their ships just to connect the junctions to the new pin.

gud idea and the thing on end makes it not torture
huge disagree here
the pin limit is a key part of what makes wiring a submarine challenging
having only 5 wires for the power pin means that it's often a good idea to make dedicated distributor junctions whose sole purpose is to deliver power to other junctions
it's also often a much better idea because other junctions can fail and power still doesn't go out
i don't think this is a good idea
use more junctions or use relay components, embrace the challenge
its not not embracing the challange
this would be only a quality of life thing
You can wire up to 16 devices to a single junction and even more with help of relays. No mods. Vanilla only.
So I agree about challenge. If you can figure how you will feel like cheating.
this is not about using less junctions, its about making the use of connections between them more organized and a little more easier. It wouldn't have a significant impact on ship building as the new pins would only work between the junctions, not more space, just a dedicated usage of power in between, and at last its totally optional.
i get the "challenge" part of it all, but why does it matter? i can just change the configs of anything to make it use a single junction box if i wanted to. plus its only a matter of quality of life, its not like you will understand how to make a ship because a junction have one more pin.
Yeah and imo it kind of sucks to have a junction box supplying 5kw of power plugged into the same slot as a random pump or something.
Why on earth can a junction box plug into 5 massive draw junction boxes, but only 5 measly lightbulbs. It just doesn't make sense
5 wires max makes sense for high draw devices because the cable would be big
Especially a junction box.
But things like small pumps and lights should not have such a low maximum
You can use relays to split everything 10000 times but even the relays have a max of 5. So you need multiple relays just to supply some weak ahh lights.
At least relays have an in and an out, so you're only wasting 1 wire and not 2.
So yeah when it comes down to it, it's just QOL
Infinitely better solution than cringe shit like this

Maybe we should just integrate a circuit box into a junction box 🤔
Could place relays as directly part of the jb
i have come around
a distributor pin would be nice
it should just be Power, not Power_In and Power_Out though
so that if you want to wire it up that way you actually have to figure it out with relays
and it works as expected in the vast majority of cases
also, a circuit box in a junction box specifically for relays would be a good idea
or what about a dedicated distributor junction which gives you a circuit box with power pins inside?
you could contain all of the wiring for your junction IN the junction as well as provide power
it would also be good for optimization
the reason, by the way, that i say wiring is meant to be challenging and not super easy is because to me, wiring is like a puzzle game inside barotrauma itself
maybe it's just my engineering mindset but when i want to do something with wiring, i get a lot of enjoyment out of drafting and implementing a solution that requires me to do more than press a button or install a mod that does what i want
Honestly keeping the 5 limit but having it vary would be nice
i.e 2 in power in, 3 in power out
It would literally just be a visual difference
It would be an annoyance for all the subs in the game, since it'd require all of them to be updated, but aside from that, there wouldn't be any real downside to introducing a in/out system
Though I do agree that it's a bit unnecessary
Also I mean this as in you can put 5 wires total for power, so 3 in 2 out, 1 in 4 out etc
it is, i got the idea but i think a simple Power pin is enough if you have the same limit as dividing it by two
and would be annoying
i think the idea of relay circuit box in the junction is very solid and could another way to talk about the idea i had on this post
"but aside from that"
aside from requiring every one of the thousands and thousands of subs on the workshop to be updated
there'd be backwards compatibility if the devs decided to do this so my main reason is actually that it sucks for sub building
the way it works right now allows you to share power both ways between junctions
rather than one way (in, out pins)
you can of course wire it to be directional quite easily
Bad idea
which allows it to do the thing most people would want it to do AND the niche more involved setup of directional power
'aside from that' because that is the only real downside in implementing the system
I'm not really for it, since it'd be a pain in the ass to adjust all of my subs to said system
exactly
"but aside from the massive problem that prevents it from being a good idea, it's a good idea"
this was my point yeah ^^
i feel like this would need a whole rework to the power system and therefore i disagree
too much work for what its worth
as its like a small qol
how? its literally just another pin dedicated to ONLY transfer power between junctions and its totally optional
there is nothing to remove, only to add
nothing to change despite adding a single more pin
how would you go about restricting it to just being able to connect to junctions
or is it not restricted
because then you just have an extra pin
That should be easy, just dont allow connecting if the other item isn't a junction box
if you had read what i wrote, i mentioned the way capacitors work with cannons.
ah okay then
still want to ask
how would connecting it to multiple work?
does the pin have like 5 connections or what
(overall though im happy with how it is now and dont see a need or want for change)
more just
i wouldnt mind the change
but i also wouldnt like it
The pin would have five connections like any other. Overall the "normal" power pin would have more space that way because all the junctions that limit the space to 3-4 devices are now connected to the junction pin
that way you could have 1 wire that comes from the reactor and 4 that connect to other junctions, aand all the space that you would have "lost" this way, is now available only for other devices
you could plug more junctions this way too
but nothing you cant do with relay components.
as i said the junciton pin is optional, so the normal power pin would still be 100% the same
its ok to not want this, i just thought would be a simpler idea for something anyone can do with some relay components.
oh yeah okay so it gives it more space
yeah it is simpler to use
