Hi Mr.Ballen! My name is Ashley, Last year on may 13th 2023 a good friend of mine was killed. His name is Dakota Wrightsman, he was 18 and was hanging out with some of his friends when while some of the boys started play fighting and a gun fell out of their pocket. That’s when Cooper Ashley, one of the boys hanging out picked up the pistol and shot my friend in the back of the head while Dakota was playing video games. I want to state that all boys were intoxicated and high. But what hurts the most was my friends parents were home. His mother, father, and sisters were all home when they heard the gunshot from the basement. The shot didn’t immediately kill Dakota, he had ran upstairs to his mother. Dakotas mom held her son and watched him die in her arms. I’m telling you his story because I believe you can help bring light to his story and help stop with intoxication with weapons. Dakotas dad had asked Cooper what happened and Cooper admitted to shooting and pulled the gun out of his hoodie to show Dakotas Dad. This took place in lees Summit Missouri. I live in Minnesota, I never got to say bye to my friend. I never got to hug him, on May 13th I get a call from my friend back home telling me he was dead. Dakota had his struggles with addiction and other stuff the last few years, but in the six months he turned his life around, he graduated High School, he got clean off bad stuff, he started to work on his future. Dakota was so bright and handsome and smart and funny. I was so excited to see the man he was going to become, I will never get to see how high he would fly, his parents and family never got to see their little boy grow up. I am no stranger to gun violence. I really hope you are able to read this, even if you don’t do anything with this information it would mean the world if you just read it.
