The Babora Skrlová Case is a shocking story of deception, abuse and manipulation that inspired the horror movie Orphan. Babora Skrlová was a 33-year-old woman who suffered from a rare condition that made her look like a 13-year-old girl. She used her appearance to infiltrate different families and convince them to join a cult called The Grail Movement, where she orchestrated horrific acts of torture and violence against children. She was exposed in 2007, when a neighbor discovered that two boys were locked in a cage and abused by their mother and aunt under Skrlová's influence. Skrlová escaped to Norway, where she pretended to be a boy named Adam, but was eventually captured and extradited to the Czech Republic. She was sentenced to only five years in prison and was released early in 2011.
