Every single summer, people drown in this lake. Their drowning is always described as them being submerged, and never coming back up or visibly struggling. They just go under the surface and never come back.

||The lake flooded a town which is underwater there now, and there are objects still at the bottom of it. Scientists studied the lake to find out what could be causing the drownings, and at first they thought it was debris, but one day when the water ebbed, they found a little hill, and in the hill they found traces of an Indian burial ground.||
Officials try to impose some regulations on where and when people can visit the lake, but I guess it's not being followed, or they're not helping. (Haven't looked into it enough to tell)
There's a movie being made about a story based on this, and it's set to be released sometime this year.
