A bit of context.

Naples, italy, '80.
Two little girls were kidnapped, abused and killed by someone.
Police arrested and interrogated a lot of persons, and "found" the responsible: three young guys in the twenties.

Later, it was found that the three guys were innocent, after 20 years or more. They were repeatedly beaten and forced by policemen to declare they were the responsible and the real killer was never caught.

The absurd fact of the whole story was that when police started the investigation, they arrested and interrogated a lot of persons to check the alibi, and they arrested the real killer who confessed that he had already kidnapped and abuses other kids in the past.

Since there was any evidence at the moment when police arrested him, they decided to set him free and continued the hunt for the real killer.
