In Scotland there is a folk lore that a man in charge of a 45 man crew called sawney bean who murdered and canabalized over 1000 people in 25 years In the 16th century . The main part of the story is that King James VI heard about sawney bean and his crew hiding out in a cave and sent out a hunting party for them. The cave they were settled in was 200 yards deep and was apparently riddled with hundreds of skeletons with barrels full of pickled remains. This created paranoia in the local village hanging several innocent people. Eventually they found him and hung him and his crew for their crimes
This story was what inspired Wes craven to make the hills have eyes which I think is a cool little story itself
