its called topbr officially, converts ingame normal, bump, env, etc maps into a pseudo-PBR version for remix automatically
is reshade supposed to be installed on gmod.exe, bin/gmod.exe or bin/win64/gmod.exe and dx9 or vulkan?

Idk if this is possible but I was thinking you could have a .txt data file with all the lights in the map and their positions and you could toggle a mode where you could move them and turn it on and off and have presets that you could make yourself that save as txt files for each map

If you play bigcity in raster that behavior doesn't exist
i dont think raster will ever be comparible to remix for reflections like that
cubemap vs actual bouncing rays
so its most likely an engine bug or some kind of tomfoolery that just isnt visible in cubemaps
You can see at 1:30 it only happens to a quarter of the texture
im pretty sure its because it uses the env_tonemap entity
If you make insanely high res cubemaps you'll see that that warping doesn't happen iirc
I think it has something to do with the way the brushes are being rendered
yeah but cubemaps render with a shader that projects it to the player's camera, so there is nothing physical about it vs remix where its actually bouncing rays off the geometry
so the geometry is doing some inception shit lmao
or really just the vertex normals
im sure the geo is straight
perf computes its own
which is why its probably not affected

yeah, i did fixes for multiplayer somewhere between aug-oct for 0.8.1 but a lot of major project changes have probably broken it since then

you can make issues now if you want, I have no idea what's broken atm
but there is one exception
public servers wont work at all right now unless they are hosting the addon/module, so i wouldnt make issues for that, The plan is to inject the mod into the game so it works completely clientside for normal servers
there are some injecton tools that already exist that i have messed with and its definitely possible

When perf mode has parity with engine you should make a raster version. I assume it wouldn't be too hard, you just need to re-enable PVS and light maps. But I have no idea how hard that would be

API lights are back and better than ever! Every single type Remix exposes are available to spawn and mess with ingame. They also replace source engine maps lights which has been showcased in a video previously. This video demonstrates multiplayer capabilities now that they are networked

ok so from what i have figured out, it has to do with shadow termination on hard edges of the mesh
source does push smooth normals over FF so quite literally no need for the remix one
this is probably fixable in the runtime but getting shadow termination to work well with low poly models is gonna be a pita, i might need to make a github issue feature request or something

but I also naively thought AMD would care about PT after releasing RDNA 4 but nahh that didnt happen
but i already said the biggest reason, huge upgrade from my 2080 and it didnt cost me an arm and a leg
ngl that strong broken normal effect looks weird af i think i like it, could be used to effect for intentional glitchy visuals

if you're using the nighly builds, you need the newest of the remix runtime and also fixes packages, if they dont match then a lot of stuff doesn't work

this is the smoothest 20-30-ish fps i have ever felt
im on like 4x frame gen and while the input latency is ass, it actually doesnt feel too bad

it really helps with engine bottlenecked maps like csgo dust2
and thats with perf mode
its 1 frame per like minute with it off 
added back distance culling for truly potato systems, its off by default
PVS will override it so if its not rendering already because of that, then it wont do anything
this is mainly for maps that have like no visibility checking at all
why the fuck does NRC just randomly break
i have to switch to restir and then back to NRC for any indirect lighting to show sometimes
its normal for nrc to do that
in my experience its very common for it to suddenly start shifting the colours of indirect lighting before mostly dissapearing
i think there is a setting that fixes that

also u dont have to switch to restir just click on the reset history checkbox
also you can disable โinclude direct lightingโ to make the bounce lighting from things like flashlights instant at the cost of extra boiling

hold up test the regular glass dome againts the one with metal frames on it
they use the same material but they look nothing like eachother (i think it's cause of the normals on the model?)

so yeah its probably the vertex normals or how thick the actual glass is

on the left dome it works fine because it's physically thick
on the right one the glass portion is just a single surface

if the glass isn't set to be thin (or whatever the setting was?) and there's no exit face it'll trace as glass until it hits something
so it's effectively acting as if the entire dome is solid glass
imean ya unless you make something that can somehow pick up on if glass is thin or not and apply different material properties iunno

since if you just set the glass to be thin then you don't get as nice visuals on glass that isn't thin (like the left dome)
