the only place they dont render is displacements because they use a different render path

SPR renders static props directly with imesh so i guess we're skipping some kind of engine issue

back in march/april of last year, the 9070 was a better deal than nvidia cards at the time
and the RT perf was really good (still is to a degree), but time has passed and the driver situation has gotten worse and AMD doesnt really seem to care
yeah remix is borderline unusable on windows, its far better on linux in terms of stability but there are some rendering and performance issues, but i have made gitlab issues for it

they fixed a lot of RT stuff this january
pixelcluster is one of the main people spearheading that and they're doing a great job

portal 2 rtx would benefit more from rendering all of the static map details as a remix replacement, i already verified it's almost a 2x perf increase
because 90% of perf issues in portal 2 rtx is cpu bottlenecks in the engine

the chunked rendering is dynamic and runtime based, but the geometry would be the same as a remix replacement
gmod needs the dynamic stuff because its not a linear game, we have to account for any workshop or mounted maps
where portal 2 rtx is linear as it only has a story and coop
What if i have a ton of physics objects
we dont handle any dynamic entities
so that would still cause an engine bottleneck regardless of method
and its not worth reinventing the wheel for those

your best bet is waiting for gp2 rework to come out and play in gmod rtx instead

your character movement looks different and that addon causes a bunch of rendering issues

VS will catch a fatal exception so whatever it is, its stalling the process instead

Usually after I do a bunch of stuff in one instance of the game, then restart it and go back on the map I had just disconnected from

I found when enabling it for the first time I had to restart the game two or three times to get it to apply
Then it starts working after that for me consistently
it only takes one game reboot for remix to see the mod
i can fix this by including the mod with the nightly so its loaded from the get-go

For nvidia specifically, you need to disable texture sampling
if its on, it causes a lot of stability issues with streaming
so that might explain the noclipping crashing it
the only thing in the mod folder for me is just base mod

@keen rivet i know you dont like appdata but i think im gonna force my hand and standardize the gmod rtx install location
ill leave an option to make it work where the launcher is placed but this will just make things so much simpler

it gives you a choice between stable and nightly
you might need to download the newest launcher
same issue is applying, did microslop start enabling onedrive sync on downloads or something?
it fucks up symlinks and other stuff which is causing those issues in your screenshot
i just created folder "gmodrtx" in steamapps/common
that only works if its not on the C:\ drive due to permissions in the program files folder

try it this way:
- verify game files for vanilla gmod on steam
- once thats done, open vanilla gmod and load into a map, then exit it
- make a gmod rtx install somewhere like C:\gmodrtx (or even your user folder like this: `C:\Users\cr\gmodrtx)
- do nightly quick install
if that still doesnt work then some unknown factor in your setup is messing up the install.

the russian gm_construct map (and even just loading the assets of it) causes gmod rtx to crash
