this is very much not close to how VHS looks ๐
i modified the preset a bit so that the image looked sharper and didn't have the borders
their example images are good though. it really does need to be a lower res to work right
i dont think it actually has lower res. just blurrier and cropped to a different aspect ratio

i messed around with it before iirc. it's a lot less accurate
like it's easier to use and looks probably more like what people expect, but it didn't work well for datasets at least, meaning there's some kind of inaccuracy

runtime will only allow legacy emissives on stuff that actually has an alpha channel

It's incredible how modern Valve's approach to material rendering was back then and especially how much and how well the artists took advantage of it. I think a lot of it comes down to how realistically the enviorments have decayed or are at different stages of decay by the time you've gotten to them. Like these windows really look like they haven't been cleaned in 20 years and reflect like as such. Path Tracing just brings all that material work into light

wow dm_crossfire with topbr on made my driver crash so hard it kicked me out of my desktop session
starting to see a trend
Yeah crossfire is really heavy
something about remix reloading materials really stresses out the driver
like its happening to me on windows and linux, which have drastically different GPU drivers

16gb, im nowhere near running out though
the crashes are happening while topbr is processing materials
like enhnacements are still on, there just isnt anything going on when loading into the map
maybe remix is hitting some kind of race condition
i need a way to stagger reloads or at least smooth them out so the driver doesnt get overwhelmed
at least crossfire reliably crashes it lol, good for debugging

not the mateirals themselves, even though they arent being reprocessed, topbr is most likely rewriting all of the usda entries causing remix to reload the mod every second
