x64 doesnt use the bridge so yes there is less overhead, but the normal version with culling patches still introduces engine bottlenecks. The perf version uses alternative rendering methods that is much lighter on the engine and is more BVH friendly so its 90% GPU bottlenecked. The x32 version has culling patches and the overhead of the bridge

oh and does gmod use a lot of lua? i thought it did but might be imagining things
we disable engine rendered map faces, displacements, and static props, then use lua render hooks and abstractions to remake each of those components, with the key benefit of them completely bypassing visibility checks and use source's imesh for the actual geometry rendering. We split pretty much everything into smaller chunks to bypass the 65535 vert limit but that also helps out remix since we're submitting a far less amount of drawcalls
static props in particular re-use PVS culling since that doesnt depend on the camera but computed visibility which is available from the BSP

to a certain degree yes, the game looks pretty bad with RT off but it looks almost visually identical compared to the normal source engine rendering
it still has some issues and caveats but hopefully these can be ironed out in time
could these be used in HL2RTX?
it would be better to do this at a lower level than lua but im surprised of how well it works and performant it is
not really, unless you recreated all of it on C++ or somehow import GLua into it
the best thing to do for any game is what i have said for portal 2
re-render all static geometry as a mesh replacement attached to an anchor mesh
and then disable the engine-rendered ones
its far faster than a renderer replacement
I run into issues with collision in the painengine when doing this unfortunately
the engine calculates collision on the fly or on level load based on the level geometry, so if I gut the levels, no collision

it seems that something like that occurs already in some form, as the game runs at higher fps with vanilla dxvk, than the original game
you just need an anchor mesh to be rendered for the level replacement to be attached to, everything else can be disabled (in a way that you can keep level collision)

my indirect lighting looks a lot different since im using restir gi and no RR
so to me at least mine look natural
yes ik path tracing is accurate but the colour correction can still be manipulated to make the scene look wrong

So found out Portal 2 also randomly freezes similarly to gmod. Though the log doesnt say the same thing. The only source engine rtx that I havent run into this freeze with is Left 4 Dead 2 and CSS

The problem with AgX is that it's not really a tonemapper. It's goal isn't to faithfully compress information. It was built for expression and make you feel something. Not to say that isn't valid but when you're aiming for a ground look using AgX doesn't make sense imo.

even if agxc is still not a proper tonemapper, it looks a lot more natural than the ACES remix currently has, but im not opposed to doing something better. Though i am biased towards it reflecting real life if that makes sense

Yeah reflecting real life makes the most sense here. GT7 would be an upgrade over the current AgX but the HDR Den has bleeding edge stuff.

Personally I lean towards the EETF in BT.2390 (we often refer to it as "hermite spline" in the HDR Den).
Shortfuse of the RenoDX project recently created his own tonemapper (Neutwo) that I still need to mess with but I've heard good things.
Kinda get's messy because those are only parts of your full tonemapping setup. For something robust you need to decide between doing the tonemapping by max channel, by luminance, or by channel average and you need to choose a way of doing highlight desaturation.

i dont see the checkbox for it on our builds but its in hl2 rtx demo
the new one is Hill ACES and the current default Narkowicz ACES
it's an improvement for sure (the highlights in Narkowicz ACES are really odd) but something neutral is definitely needed imo
I wish I could have a blend between hable filmic and something that actually has proper highlights becoming white
The easiest way of doing that would probably be to take the highlight desaturation from the frostbite tonemapper and apply it before hable

The colorspace AgX uses blows out highlights to white very quickly and AgX does a special log encoding that kinda normalizes the shadows and highlights

Another thing is the mobile space, Intel is introducing new architectures for their iGPUs with things like ML Upscaling, Framegen, enhanced RT but AMD is only giving RDNA 4 based iGPUs to Sony and Samsung right now instead of the PC space
I also have no doubt NVIDIA is planning to release APUs for laptops soon
Especially when an NVIDIA employee gave a guide for gaming on their AI Kit APU which was a really good experience

The previous processors were RDNA 2 and RDNA 3
Samsung is currently the only phones will AMD graphics in them and it would be amazing if they could learn how to manage thermals
