the original scene I did this method for I was doing a psudo star trek holo deck like thing, and there was stuff outside the room so I couldnt simply "hide the walls"

its just what happens when you have a really small point of light in a skybox, and when you make that skybox not a sky in blenders eyes, it doesnt give it any special treatment
it also doesnt help there is no actual light source, just "a small bright spot", so its not like its sending a large number of rays to that light to sample it well, since the light doesnt really exist
thats why this is impressive to me, there is no sunlight in the scene, just the "bright spot" on the HDRI
seems after some testing one of the big helpers to the custom HDRI lights is the NEE cache
which given this, it makes sense

does RTX remix actually go well with multiplayer currently?
it works okay, but a lot of the clientside fixes wont run in MP since its all an addon
unless you're hosting
Also maps can vary in compatibility
Some will work perfectly, some will show mild bugs and some will just be broken completely
i expect most not to render correctly if you're playing on a server without the addon running on it
and i bet admins would not allow RTX addons (or rtx remix itself) to be on RP servers
it wouldnt be too hard to inject the mod so it works on all servers, 90% of the compat stuff in the addon is clientside
and since gmod doesnt use VAC, no worry of getting banned
except for some of those hardcore darkrp servers (not that i'd expect anyone to get playable performance on servers like those, they usually have stupidly large unoptimized maps)
plus the maps themselves have like
custom loading zones etc

old one was buggy at best
it relied on overriding the engine level flashlight, even then, it wouldnt work on a lot of maps
this goes over the engine since its just an anchor parented to the player and isnt dependent on engine-lighting
this is also server compatible
since its it's own entity, it means you can see other people's flashlights too
seems to work perfectly in MP

I plan on doing his hla props port, but that's over 400 props, I got it down to like 200, in which 55 are gibs

We remastering Gmod with this one
if I was really insane, I would take all those hla texture mods and then put them with the proper properties
but I'm not sure how I would get all the textures at once to remix them

a lot of these props were made by HL2RA/P17 (who are two of the mod teams making up HL2RTX) prior to working on RTX, and will in fact be used in HL2RTX, I just don't think we shipped most of these with the demo as they weren't necessary

the combine interfaces, when ported, did not have proper illumination, so I had to teach myself how to edit VMTs to get them to work
im really glad you are using/modifying those remaining previous props instead of the same people redoing them, one of my big fears is most of the development time being used to remake assets already remade by them

its because all the textures in hl2rtx has been replaced with 4k textures

if you ever mounted hl2rtx to gmod previously, it deletes the .pkg files so hl2rtx doesnt take twice the disk space
steam is probably trying to redownload those
you cant unfortunately, but you can run the game without steam and it should run fine
you could have steam think its uninstalled
rename hl2rtx to something else temporarily, uninstall it via steam, and then rename it back
then re-add it as a non-steam game

there is a map fixes button
enable that
it only enables it for that map so dont worry about toggling it later
chat i have peaked, i have inverted Ignore Baked Lighting to be on for everything by default, but allow the user to enable it for specific textures. this fixes weird lighting on some props and viewmodels. much better than a engine hook imo
hopefully i can start adding more gmod-specific fixes to remix, not that there is many needed
to be specific on what this does, it fixes this issue

Hell yeah. Because in underground 2, they use vertex colors to bake lighting on the ENTIRE map.
The car neons also use vertex colors on a basic grayscale gradient texture. So unless you mark every single texture as ignore baked, you can't have neons.

it depends on the asset
for lights like that, there is no perfect value since it can look out of place depending on the map
but for that screenshot, maybe about 1/2 the brightness
now start authoring your own PBR assets, as that is the next step of the PBR addiction

takes practice, eventually you'll get better
and im not sure I have all the tools needed to do it
there is lots of good free tools, but im using substance painter primarily
I tried using Substance 3D Sampler, but couldn't really figure it out
sampler is kind've like pbrfusion, where it generates the maps for you, i wouldnt really use that starting out though

the jitter is much more stable because we're now doing motion vectors at the final output resolution instead of the internal resolution
it took a lot of work to get remix to work like this
i think dlss does this natively in its own API but of course there is no way for us to re-use that without losing the ability for xess to get merged
