btw is it possible to attach a light to an entity that moves or do lights have to be be stationary?
since I want to add point lights to the tractor beams since emissive materials don't work well

@potent agate if you have a stable hash, yes. but unfortunately most skinned meshes/entities aren't usually stable for source games

I accidentally pasted the rtx-remix files into the gmod directory, which gave me a black screen. Saw others say something about just having a black screen - the rtx files go into the bin folder

I did a material override, since I gave it a custom material it kinda fixed the issue as a bonus
You can replace the material with the base wither storm material iirc if you don't want to add custom ones
hmm I did that but for some reason didn't work which is weird cause I gave the light beams a purple emissive texture and it worked on that (they were also white colored)
hmm some objects get blurry(not motion blur) when in movement idk why, BMW is fine when in high speeds but the Nissan is just blurry mess in high speeds.
I dnt see this issue in need for speed rtx remix so probably a issue with gmod or my rtx.conf

fog in general in remix is kinda bad for some reason
why is it so difficult for renders to understand that in a dark area fog shouldn't make it brighter

u basically open up the texture in 3d paint and fill the window with dark color and the rest with white or silver and u will have your roughness map like this
as for writing i use octatex to write so idk how to write this in remix toolkit or other programs

All of the wackiness goes away if I check ignore texture alpha channel

If you set the uper texture to decal texture you can have blending on and fix the glitch

Yep, because (this is an assumption on my part) without the texture being set to decal, it renders as the "top most" texture, doesnt bother setting the lower texure to save power, and because it's clear through on the texture itself
Carefully set the fallback radius to 45 personally looms best for me, altho is scrolled to fast it may crash your game
Do you have alpha blend still turned off?

Some textures like sky textures and missing white/ignored textures aren't selectable, I'd asume this to be done to save a headache selecting small textures
I set a texture as decal
and it isn't selectable anymore
same with all decal textures
I can hover over it but clicking no longer does anything
Yeah decal textures act the same as ignored textures figuring they lay on top of base textures
So the runtime assumes you to click the object below, again saving a headache

Not sure if its because im on a 3060 ti, wich souldn't be the issue as thats the minimal requirment for rtx remix + ive tested it on many other games and it worked fine, its just gmod its fucking up on for me, for some reason
I even own the portal games so i installed portal RTX to get the Dlls he recommends replacing for it to run better

found this cool addon that is meant for controlling map brightness in gmod and it actually works for turning off lights in a map without actually ignoring lights in the runtime
its a bit buggy on this one as not all lights turn off

the camera height u can set it within remix menu in the dev settings and the high exposure visual was off my rtx conf

i mean under very specific light spots wood can be quite reflective
and yeah from any other angle those look very non reflective

maybe for oiled/varnished wood? for a pallet the only way i can see it being reflective if its soaking wet.

Working on an update to my HL2 PBR Pack that will feature the new upscaler, PBRFusion. This might also include height maps depending on if file size will allow once it's all done.
can someone help? im trying to install the remix and during the command part i got this error
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\GarrysModWithRTX\applypatch.py': [Errno 2] No such file or directory"
Place the applypatch.py file in the garrysmodwithrtx directory and run from there
Try making a new folder and put applypatch py in there and then make another folder right besides applypatch named bin
Then in that bin folder put
datacache.dll
Engine.dll
Shaderapidx9.dll
And client.dll
Then open terminal or cmd in that folder
Then run the script

hmmm try opening cmd inside the folder where applypatch.py is, u can do that by u know where u can see the pathways of files and folder above? Like C:\Steam and whatever remove all of that and write cmd there and press enter, do this inside the folder where applypatch.py is
It should open cmd inside that folder and then all u need to do is just type applypatch.py

Ahhh, your applypatch.py is secretly a .txt file. Click under view and click the File Name extensions to change it to a .py file

i think 3d skyboxes don't work yet
they work with the portal rtx runtime but iirc they aren't pathtraced or at least not correctly

you could convert the map into a mesh in blender, get the skybox, and then place it back on a stable instance in remix, i actually kinda did this but with an entire map

I just made the simple water texture emissive and reflective but the main ones that make them look like that are turning on Restir GI and Thin film
And the reason it's flickering cause of two colors, the main textures color is green (I made it green) but if u change it via the gwater settings it will flicker between green and the other color which sometimes looks cool

iirc gwater1 is pure lua? I think it does everything in-engine and uses sprites to render each water particle

gwater2 is the one that will struggle to run with remix since it uses external libraries
literally just duplicate your gmod folder
i think the confusion comes from running it from steam
gmod calls steam when you run it directly from the .bat file so you dont need steam to launch the rtx/vanilla ver
