My gmod is also acting funky with remix right now and now sure what caused it, lights don't emmit till I'm super close for some reason
are u also doing the glass? so far I found atleast three glass textures in css, one is in office, in Havana and in nuke on the ceiling
Yeah though I was doing it wrong initially. I was marking it as a decal so it rendered normal till I realized I need to mark it as transparent in the toolkit

looks cool, man I wish the lights in CSS stayed on all the times, it's pretty playable even in MP just the lights turn on when near and bit of vertix explosions on some maps

I've got a weird problem I can't figure out how to fix. After I initially set up gmod to work with rtx remix it worked well, but now for some reason lights only turn on when I walk right next to them. Did I screw up a setting somewhere?

you can either give it a shiny pbr material or you can right click the material in the toolkit and convert it to a translucent material

Yeah that fixed it. One other thing - is it recommended to turn the skybox off only because it renders funny or does it actually break anything else? I'd like to keep it on even though it doesnt look right

what happens if you use dx9 mode? I think I remember using dx9 until I changed it to dx7 in the launcher, but I could be wrong 
if that's even where we change dx modes lol
it probably wont work because as long as shadermodel is 0, dx8 rendering mode will be used

some of the textures dont need to be heightmapped so I need to go through and disable those, this was just a quick test
iirc dlss 3 isn't supported in vr yet

which kinda sucks because it'd be way better than reprojection

though instead of no screen it gets to a whitescreen like sonic adventure dx did with rtx remix
just instead of crashing to desktop gmod gives me a error message
im not entirely sure if AMD has proper Vulkan extension support for rtx remix on windows, best thing i can think of is to update your gpu drivers

Yeah, AMD broke Remix with their latest drivers on Windows, they never added support for it either, if you want to continue using it on windows, you'll have to roll back to driver 23.12.1

You'll have to erase the driver you're using currently, using a software like ddu driver Uninstaller and then install the 23.12.1 driver through AMD
i downgraded the drivers and it still gives me that d3d error
maybe i installed the mod wrong?
could it be that i did not move the files from portal rtx to gmod?
That's weird, 23.12.1 should have fixed it, the only time I know it doesn't is if the other drivers are still somehow present
that could be the problem since i did not use safemode and there is a chance windows is installing the recent drivers without my permission

When I had a rx 6600xt, Windows used to override the drivers I installed with their own version
some of the images look like mc rtx
the one withe door and the one with the bookshelf

so would switching to linux be better for using rtx remix on amd

Better for rtx remix because Linux has the support needed for it, even on older cards like the 6000 series
For gaming in general, I don't really think there's a big difference but I do hear in some cases it's better

you can, but forget about using depth based shader effects
i havent done it myself but i assume you point the reshade installer to the .trex folder of your remix install and mark it as a vulkan application in the installer

I've been thinking of ways to fix it but I don't have the knowledge to create the patches
i guess whenever he's available we could ask him how he makes the patches
i assume its mostly finding breakpoints in code using a debugger and using reverse engineering knowledge to change that function. though that's a very simplified overview

followed this tutorial, and I got it to work, but its still super unstable
constant crashes, flashlight doesnt work, UI elements like effects from the physgun make the screen go all white, and the remix bridge will sometimes unexpectedly just fail on me

I've been eyeballing this stuff since before remix, love my RT implementations, hate irradiance caches, when I saw light retention in portal RTX, knowing what kinda denoiser could be made ala Q2RTX (this is NV we're talking about) I was immediately suspicious, and immediately I started digging through the settings, boy was I confused when I found out it was ReSTIR
it sucks its ReSTIR too, cause it means RR has 0 effect
and disabling temporal reuse hurts GI in many areas
honestly restir + ray reconstruction makes things good

overnight the fnaf map completely broke wtf
oddly enough when out of bounds and in certain spots it un breaks
it seems to be entitiys on the map, but I dont understand what would have caused it to break overnight
what causes assets to be abruptyl ignored by remix?
also seems somewhat random, sometimes half the map works, sometimes none of it works, and sometimes it loads without issues
OK I've nailed it down to just 2 assets
the spare bonnie heads backstage (bonnie specifically) and foxy in pirates cove
when scrolling through here I found this which mentions the issue being a missing material on objects
idk about foxy since I didnt see anything missing but Know for sure the bonnie heads are missing materials
doesnt explain why the map was still loading up constantly and worked several times
nor why it inexplicably worked once when debugging all this upon a fresh boot of the map, but I at least know what assets are the issue
what do you know, foxy does have a missing material, it just bleeds through the model

If you're on a map and everything mirrors, use ent_remove_all func_reflective_glass in the console
this looks so realistic
I used Kim's PBRify to upscale everything, and ran Mechanite's script to get everything replaced in the toolkit faster 🙂

I need to try that, seems to give WAY better results than what NVs AI gave me
that RT implementation pissed me off so much, we had the promo trailer talking about GI, Shadows, and AO, then the game releases with noisy unoptimized reflections and nothing else
halo infinite did something similar, early on they had a video of the devs talking about how cool their RT was gonna be, then way in the future we only got shadows
worst part is the shadows are only in multiplayer, if you wanna play the campaign with them you cant even do that
deffo got too ambitious though, also heard there was a ton of crap since they jumped so hard on brand deals, then ofc funko leaking a ton of crap, at least ruin was cool

I just realized something, I noticed some areas looked a bit too dark when messing in house with garden 3v4 when the lights were out, then I realized messing with settings

Ironically I get a lot of that light back when I turn restir off, which tells me RR is expecting lots of noise in low light
I guess the lack of noise has the AI thinking it needs to be darker
The mmod weapons are really really impressive. The smoke effects after shooting are a little much, but other than that I've been sleeping on this gun pack

Maybe the steam cloud saves is messing something up? I remember I had an issue where I had to delete my gmod cloud save (it's a wholeeeee mess to do) and reset to get gmod rtx working on my new setup for the 1st time.

Weird, I installed it via SteamCMD which doesn't include the cloud stuff and it still doesn't work
it gave me the same issue the portal gun and models with missing materials have, which I guess could mean I dont have all the content for it cause the fix for the portal gun doesnt work here
basically its the issue where half the level goes transparent and you see a ton of stuff rendering ontop of one another

mine used to not load, I recently reinstalled windows wiping my C drive and did a fresh install of gmod and gmod rtx. I think the new tutorial made them work by not editing the menu lua files

reduces detail in textures but also increases the detail in lighting
more shiny metal-y materials lose detail
So obviously if you run 1080p plus DLSS and RR a lot of quality is lost

generally i think so
some non-skinned meshes still have the problem of their hash changing every frame of movement
plus i think even with r_lod 0 some meshes apply lods
well i dunno if they apply lods but their hashes still change depending on your distance to them

RR is such wacky tech, everything it improves it hurts,
it will both help and ruin textures, lighting, ghosting, its quite amazing really
if you mean to imply those are done entriely with POM, that would be an insane way to use POM
remix lets you replace meshes
and in multiple interviews they talked about how they were gonna edit the meshes for entire map sections
i guess the walls are pretty detailed for potentially being textures but something about the edges of all the elements strikes me as it being displacement

if the hashes are the same then yes
iirc most portal rtx assets do not work though
it might have the same issue as portal rtx, the hl2rtx engine might have enough changes to change hashes so they dont work on gmod
otherwise I'll just wait for remix to let me open an USD and mass-pbr assets overnight

if you use the downloader in #remix-beginners-guide, just copy all newly downloaded files into the game folder
if you only replace .trex, that can cause issues. that'll replace all of dxvk-remix (the runtime) and only parts of bridge-remix (the 32 to 64 bit conversion). that's bad

Yea mine too, U have to like double click on the values and set them as a specific number instead of sliding
i asked nv_mark about this, for some reason shadows/light casting is not implemented for non-thin flagged glass objects
i think its because its very computationally expensive to calculate

why is my normal gmod getting taken over by my rtx gmod?.. i cant figure out how to disconnect remix from my normal gmod
verifying the files didnt work, deleting the rtx gmod didnt work, verifying files after all that also didnt work

so i got all the stuff installed and set up but it just loads to a black screen

i already tried it with the 64-bit patches, infmap uses some kind of shader to render all geometry
so on rtx remix all you see is a black screen
but you can move around and stuff
