i copied the entire half life 2 game folder into portal prelude
instead of doing just the hl2 folder

yeah after testing a bit more there are some serious culling issues for me
most of the lights dissapear and reappear and the ground doesnt seem to be visible
I’d send an rtx.conf if I had one, but I’ve uninstalled hl2 rtx 
There might be a decal texture on the ground that’s making it disappear

it should have most of hl2's textures tagged and auto skybox detection is on

enable stochastic alpha blending under advanced alpha blending options 
for some reason toggling RR unticks that box every time

since portal prelude rtx's engine has stable hashes, i was able to add a light to the gravity gun
thought this was funny lol, i imported the remix capture back as a miniature model ingame

But the citizens are so shiny and the lights in the hal life 2 chapters are still bugged
It's just meant as texture pack, I've done zero adjustments lighting/the campaign. This also isn't for the chapters.
since none of the textures are manually authored, there is no way for everything to actually look correct in PBR standards for that material/object. As good as PBRIfy is, its not going to nail correct material properties as manual labor can
the pbr pack for hl2 isnt working all the textures are just blury

been having problems getting the game to launch using the instructions on moddb
There's also conflicting steps in the instructions between moddb's remix page for the game, and the PBR mod's
I re-did the installation following these steps and while the game launches now... it also does this

Ahh, it looks like it has a few more extra steps. It may have been accurate at the time, but now it's as simple as putting the hl2 folder from half life 2 into portal rtx, with launch option of -game hl2

as i said the source fog gets remapped into volumetric fog and that's 90% of what makes everything look washed out on source maps

this shouldnt be happening in the portal prelude rtx engine
its mostly up to user preference, those AI PBR textures definitely help make materials look slightly better but its best to wait for the official release
just a heads up for the hl2 rtx team, Gordon's 3rd person model is meant to be a Chrome statue

source 2013 is compatible, its not based off the l4d/alienswarm branch
2013 is based off the orangebox engine and it still has dxlevel controls

this is also a long shot but since portal/prelude rtx are also sdk 2013 based, you could try moving the hdtf folder to it and running the game with -game <whatever the game folder name is>

the map is being illuminated by the skybox because the detail texture on the wall is making it transparent
you need to ignore those textures in the runtime so you dont have random holes like that

Hey guys, I got it working after trying to get it to work for months, but it just lags. a bit too much. In Portal RTX i'm getting 40-50 fps and here i'm getting 1 fps and it crashes. Can anyone help me?

well I've walked around a little bit but when i look in a certain direction the lighting comes back, so it might be an occlusion problem
you shouldnt be having those issues with portal rtx or prelude rtx
i dont know what it is anymore, theres also some missing textures now which werent there in portal with rtx.
and some models of lights are just pure red
and now certain props start summoning the darkness if interacted with in certain ways
you sure you dont have satan's rtx 4090 or something?
i can only chalk this up to either a currupted build of both portal rtx games or a driver bug

Question: I got half life 2 rtx working through the guide on Moddb and also downloaded the mods "Skurtyy's Half Life 2 RTX PBR Assets" and "Xenthio's water PBR pack". Whenever I'm in an area where the skybox isn't being culled, there is immense heavy fog. Is there a fix for this?

I do not know, maybe UI elements were not tagged correctly in the game setup tab? Someone else might have a better answer for this question

Found the settings for the fog, they're under Froxel Radiance Cache/Volumetrics -> Volumetric Lighting and then you have to enable the box labeled "Volumetric Lighting" as well as disable the box labeled "Enable Legacy Fog Remapping"
doing both of those combined fixed it for me
if you want to leave "Enable Legacy Fog Remapping" enabled, then you can also disable "Enable Fog Max Distance Remapping" beneath it
Enabling "High" or "Ultra" graphics in the normal menu also seems to fix it
Update: I put on the HEV suit and the UI icons were fixed, no idea why

yeah, portal with rtx has some additional issues that the prelude engine fixes
as its much closer to base hl2
the one issue with both engines is that there is a fixed limit of lights allowed in a source map, iirc 16, so some areas are just missing lights
but its nothing to do with culling

Apparently Portal Prelude RTX is a SDK 2013 base as I'm able to run source mods on top of it, gonna be fun to use this on top of HL2 RTX when it comes out.

i find it interesting that to get terrain textures to work, i don't flag them as terrain textures but rather world ui textures

If you tag them as world ui textures, they textures will be rasterized and not be path traced. Try decal texture instead 🙂

you move the "applypatch.py" to the game directory, and then run the applypatch.py. A patched folder appears, and you just copy and paste whatever's in that folder in your game directory

There's absolutely no culling, and the gmod rtx fixes addon fixes a TON of things you can't get in half life 2 alone with prelude

the patch worked earlier for me with prelude
i ran the .py and it ran for about a tenth of a second and then closed and no file was created

ik my game is installed correctly lol, the light issue has nothing to do with how the game is installed, source has a hardcoded light limit of 4
though the issue in your video is culling
made a backup of bin and hl2, then applied the patched files and chose to ovveride the existing files

yeah gmods so much more polished, it's easier to just copy the gmod game folder and name it something like garrysmodrtx so it doesn't save over or get overwritten when an update comes out

Once it’s done validating the files, the vanilla folder will be reacquired and the RTX config file will also probably be replaced so you might want to replace the config again as well
There will probably be culling issues with the lighting though, which will appear in game as shadows that pop in and out of existence based on where you are and where you’re looking, and after fiddling around with hl2 RTX way too much with the help of CR, I just settled on gmod as a more stable platform

click on the sky and and mark them as "sky texture"
when you click with the mouse on the sky while the rtx remix menu is open, they will flash green, and a small menu will open for you, then choose the category "Sky Texture" click on the small square next it to mark it
Do the same for all the sky textures

the newer rtx remix runtime in portal can automatically flag sky textures
just make sure to use the rtx.conf that's pinned here too
