Yeah the meshes have a lot more difficult shapes than lights, we are still investigating it, and will update when we figure it out. And thanks for all the good works on nfs_u2, it's very amazing rtx game now

i dont know if this has been talked about already but has anyone ever tried setting the headlights material as emmissive? i just tried it there and its really weird how it works. when you're stopped it sort of takes a second for the light to build up and when you're driving it cant keep up but the funny thing is when im in hood view and i start spamming the look back button they seem to be able to keep up?

It wouldn't work that well. Car headlights are more or less focused beams, not emissive planes. Plus, it would make the headlight objects look like the sun just exploded.

ah ok, yeah, they are stable. And I couldnt find ghosting at 100fps+ om performance, but at low fps its a bit visible when playing without dls or quality mode (about 60 to 70)

thats not the problem. Mipmapping still is. Because i have to select a mesh. The mesh gets mipmapped ingame when too far away but still in sight

Emissive aren’t good at projecting light since they just kinda radiate light. You need to use a light source for headlights to work properly.

I mean the forward draw distance is super easy to make massive.
but how did you get them that bright??
This is because when looking at the back of the car, the headlight object is culled. When you look back, the headlight object is rendered again, and so is the light that's attached to it. When you straighten out the camera again, the headlight object is hidden again, but light anti culling freezes in the last known position. That's why you get floating lights. And that's why Adam's job isn't done yet.

Just look at the rtx.conf in my mod
Because worldspace ui causes the specific object to be displayed as how the game rasterizes it.

if you select its as terrain goes black so lot of texture can be used as dynamic decal or if its flat just decal...remix dllss and denoise takes away details was trying can show by selecting it...it will not give u any problem....still u can remove it
i'm not sure how smart it is to tag e.g. the road as decals,
decals are supposed to be thin geometry (planes) on top of other geometry, it might give you the right look right now, but it's likely this might cause issues later, i try to only tag things in categories i 100% know they belong to, (like obvious UI textures being tagged as such)
thats the safest approach, not sure if it's the best/most reasonable one
i have seen in this server for a game dont remember selecting textures as dynamic decal or decal worked

I didn't try unbound. Heat may be nice, but I don't like how modern nfs feels. The brake = drift thing really kills it for me.

This is 1 Meter per unit. Fixes the main body paint job but for some reason the carbon fiber is still way out of scale.

yeah I think the material scaling is just plain wrong in most cases. Some of the materials don't seem to scale at all and many others just seem to be at the wrong scale

In the future there will be proper tooling to allow for mesh work. Not very easy to do now, so no one is doing that.
The sharp edges in turns is just from how the original meshes are. Nothing can be done about that right now.

Honestly, out of all the remix mods I’ve used, U2 runs really well.
One thing missing is displacement mapping or tessellation, I don't think tessellation will work with path tracing because it's a rasterized shader
U2 is probably the best game to show what Remix is capable of because of the lighting etc

You can modify them a bit with the current shaping but it constantly breaks in the remix engine.
The focus shaping is all wonky and ends up putting a hole in the middle.

I think the problem is that the game differenciates materials based on texture hash. The game bakes a new texture every time you dare touching car customization. Remix freaks out.

I customized my car twice after I saved the mod.usda, now remix randomly chooses one of the two while loading the game.
if we just go down the normal car mods, they have a upper limit of 20k polygons ; which is bad 😔
so remix replacements are our only chance
example is the skyline mod by archie. He mentioned that 20K is absolute maximum. Higher and the game crashes

For me, I don't mind the way the cars currently look. The game is mostly dark. You could make a normal map for rain drops, but that's about it.

Okay so I got it working now going back to Burrito's directions and Raven's links. but the ground textures dont load
got that part kinda sorted now
as i said, if you delete the downloaded folder from buritto there are no road textures
yeah i figured that out. also i think the reason why it was giving issues before was because i had my game config set up since 2020 and the asi loader updated since then which caused issues
ah yes, the asi loader, forget that too. It has to be named dsound instaed of dinput8
nah dinput8 still works, its just that mine was super old
you can either rename d3d9.dll to .asi or dinput 8 to dsound. both works same way

oh also i know you guys were working on the lighting culling problem and I did see that someone fixed it. is that still being worked on or is there some solution for it? since it seems like i'm running into the same thing
well light anti culling was recently added to the dxvk remix files. But for now it only works for sphere and rect lights (yes cylinder and disk still gets culled, noticed it recently)

when i placed everything needed. After that i will edit the colors of the lights. Make some of them warmer in places where it would fit to have warmer lights. This would be the next update then

You can add object but they will be ghost (car pass through) as the original game can't see them, better to mod the original game map(which is possible)

I guess I don't remember well enough to have a super strong opinion one way or the other. I like the idea of older areas being a bit more dingy/yellow though.
it's a small enough change that it's probably not out of the question to have 2 different versions of the mod - one for faithful to vanilla NFSU2 and one for realism maybe? Git makes it easy to diff those changes out

I think maybe it ran out of RAM and just decided to stop working or something. Because it was lit in the garage when I first started but once I go out in the streets the lights stop working and even going back to the garage is dark

oh I see what happened. I overwrote the mod folder with the one from underground_2_RTX_remix_0.1.rar because my roads disappeared like Heyec's, but I forgot to copy your mod file back in there again.
That's why I thought there was a different zip that needed to be pinned, because maybe you were using different roads than the old ones I had from the original post.
