To get sharper creased shapes, you can use the inflate / deflate. And then use the smooth tool to fine tune the shape.

In Need for Speed Underground 2, we have a 600k polygon tree replacement in remix. Since remix uses a 64-bit renderer, we don't need to worry about the original game's polygon limits. The only real limit is our PC's memory. Also, path tracing is very efficient with high polygon counts.

Yes, you can. But it's more efficient to replace them in the remix. Trying to fix them in the original game that works in the remix will likely result in more mods, which could impact performance in path tracing.

Don't try to make more mods compatible with the replacement. I've tried that before, if the player adds just one more mod, your replacement textures may end up disappearing.

Maybe the issue is that my desktop CPU is too weak. I tried it on my laptop yesterday, which has an i9 13900H and an RTX 4060. With the LODMod installed, the performance hit wasn't too bad, compared to my desktop which has a Ryzen 3700 and an RTX 4090.

Using fewer mods tends to be more stable. Your best bet is to just try replacing all the assets in Remix. Since your team has built up a lot of assets over the years, you should be able to handle that. But for GTASA modding, we don't have that luxury, so we have to do it all ourselves.

The best approach is to transform old mods into remix mods. That will help reduce issues with texture and mesh hashes. It also allows players to pick and choose which mods they want to use, similar to how players can mix and match different GTA mods. For example, if there's a modded tree mod, a modded interior mod, and a modded grass mod, the player can mix and match them if they're separate USDA files.

Thanks to Kim from RTX Remix Showcase Discord server for his PBRifry AI models used with chainner app to generate PBR, and upscale 4x the ROSA lod textures.

Changelog:

08/24/2024 / v0.1 - First release. PBR’s are raw atm. AI generated PBR’s are the base to filter from. Most exterior stuff and lods are pbr'd. Three interiors (barber1, cj’s home, and pizza stack) are pbr’d. The rest, such as peds, weapons, interiors, and etc, are not, yet. CJ (vest, jeans, one pair of shoes, and a head you see at intro) are partially pbr’d. Lights added to the three pbr’d interiors.

Alternatively, you can wait for my script to fix it. But if you use other mods, the vehicle appearance may have problems, like no reflections on the car body. Only the color may display correctly, because some hashes may change if you use other mods.

Yes, using the moonaddition (MoonAdditions.dll) feature can get all the nearest objects at a specified position (mad.get_all_objects). Otherwise, I would need to create a new function to read the IDE file at game start, and then initialize all the light positions and spawn the streetlights if they are within the camera view or within a certain range behind the camera.

As a rule of thumb, the overall lighting of a scene should come from primitive lights and not emissive meshes. Both primitive lights as well as emissive meshes will cast light in a physically correct way, so their behavior is similar. However, primitive lights are sampled much more efficiently by the Remix renderer, resulting in both higher performance and lower noise when compared to emissive meshes. Whenever a primitive light can do the job, it should be preferred.

I'm aware of that problem, but it looks fine to me, so I didn't want to implement it. You can try adjusting my script and changing the sphere light to a directional light in Omniverse. Also, if using a directional light, it needs some extra objects to control the light and the sun/moon movement.

Your idea is good. I've also done a lot of rendering work with path tracing renderers, so I definitely know how real world light behavior works. However, it just doesn't work well in Remix, so I chose to use a sphere light and an emissive texture instead.

I mean does the distant light move, or does it stay in the same position?
Previously, I had the sun and moon orbiting around the player's position based on the actual game sun position. But that would get culled when they went behind the camera.
When I tried using a distant light setup, the sun itself was casting shadows (maybe because it was too close to the player), so I didn't use that approach. Moving the sun really far away might have solved the problem, but I didn't try that after switching to a new method.
The new approach is to have a sphere attached to the player's position, and rotate that sphere based on game time to move the sun and moon.

I'm testing the distant light setup, and it seems to work if the sun sphere is moved far away. Before, I had it 200 meters away, but now it's 8,000 meters away, and there are no more weird shadows.
However, the scene appears to be more noisy compared to when I was using a disc light as the sun light previously.

I will try to use custom meshes for replacement. That will make it easier for different mod creators to modify the mesh hashes. Right now, a single object in the game is separated into numerous objects in Remix. I will also use very small texture sizes to avoid the in-game textures being the same size as what I'm replacing the mesh hashes with.
