#Chef App times out consistently

Hi, I'm experiencing timeout errors in my Chef app when trying to give prompts.

The error is "Minified React error #31" and happens even with short prompts. It takes more than 1 minute in "Cooking" or rendering, and eventually runs into that error.
Any other Chef chat works fine, but my app's editing interface times out consistently. Can you help restore access to my app?

Hi @undone salmon. I'm kapa.ai, your friendly support bot. I will try to answer your question by searching through the knowledge base.

I'm sorry you're experiencing consistent timeouts and the "Minified React error #31" in your Chef app. Based on the knowledge sources, there isn't a direct solution or explicit mention of this specific error in Chef apps. However, here are some relevant points and suggestions:

  • Chef apps and Convex deployments can sometimes experience temporary issues that affect deployment or runtime, but these are usually resolved quickly by the Convex team. If the issue is persistent and only affects your app, it may be specific to your app's state or configuration, rather than a platform-wide outage. In similar cases, users have resolved issues by rewinding to a previous working state and trying again, as Chef apps can sometimes get into a bad state due to non-deterministic AI outputs. Rewinding and re-prompting is recommended when you encounter persistent errors or timeouts in Chef apps Chef Cookbook: Tips For Working with AI App Builders.

  • If your app's editing interface is consistently timing out, and other Chef chats work fine, it suggests the issue is isolated to your app. There is no information in the knowledge sources about restoring access to a Chef app after such an error, nor about the specific "Minified React error #31" in this context.

  • If you are able to, try cloning your app or reverting to a previous version using Chef's rewind feature. This has helped other users recover from similar issues.

  • If the problem persists, and especially if you are unable to access your app at all, it may be best to reach out directly to Convex support or post in the Convex Discord for more targeted help, as there may be a need for manual intervention.

Unfortunately, the knowledge sources do not contain enough information to provide a definitive fix for your specific error. If you can share more details (such as recent changes, the exact prompt, or logs), support staff or the community may be able to assist further.

Is there a way i can reset chat history or delete it in chef? because my chat history is too large and it leads to react error #31 due to timeout of response generation each time i enter a prompt. @nocturne bay

Based on the knowledge sources, there is no explicit documentation or official feature in Chef for resetting or deleting chat history directly from the UI. However, the Chef Cookbook suggests that if your Chef app gets into a bad state (for example, due to non-deterministic AI outputs or large chat histories causing issues), you can use the "rewind" feature to revert your app to a previous working state. This can effectively clear problematic history and restore functionality:

If you get into a bad state, try rewinding to a previous working state and try again. Chef apps can sometimes get into a bad state due to non-deterministic AI outputs, so rewinding and re-prompting is recommended if you get stuck or see errors.
Chef Cookbook: Tips For Working with AI App Builders

If the rewind feature does not resolve your issue, or if you need to delete specific messages, there is no mention in the knowledge sources of a built-in way to manually delete chat history in Chef. In that case, reaching out to Convex support or the Discord community for further assistance is recommended.

Summary:

  • There is no direct "delete chat history" button, but you can try the "rewind" feature to restore your app to a previous state.
  • If that does not help, contact support for more advanced help.

Let me know if you need guidance on how to use the rewind feature!
