It would be so much better if you could see your opponent's rank and archetype before and during the match so you know what you are up against.
I never know if I'm playing against a Birdie 1 Powerhouse or a Par 3 Technician.

It would get abused like hell. I hope it stays as it is. Show us the archetype only i would be ok with because that can't be abused. Showing the rankings ? Hell No .

whether you see the rankings or not you are still gonna be matched up against the same people? what would be abused?

People see high ranks and quit before the match starts and choose to stay in lobby when paired against lower ranks. As simple as that.

you only get matched up against people within a certain range of your current rank though, no one in Par is getting matched up against an Eagle player and quitting
