#is the best way to ask questions across

joined to just now to ask this same question! For me selecting a local folder seems to only upload 2 of the files. What's the best way to get a repo of code into gemini 1.5 pro?

ionic raven
#

When I add a folder from drive, it is a bit odd. I select File, then Drive, then the folder to add. I haven't had a problem doing it this way. But I also haven't tried to add sub-folders with this.

#

The usual questions - what kind of account are you using, GMail or Workspace? Are you logged into other accounts while you're doing this?

glass mirage
#

gmail, not logged into other accounts

#

I just now tried your "file -> select folder in drive" and it gets further (7 files), but doesn't appear to recurse into subdirs

#

when I try to upload the local directory I do get a prompt about uploading 92 files

#

looking at my network tab it looks like it's trying to upload all the files... but after a few seconds gets a rapid run of 403's, like some upload token's permissions timed out

ionic raven
#

It is uploading them to drive, and I wouldn't rule out that they messed that up.
which is usually why I suggest putting things on drive and accessing from there.

glass mirage
#

yea that makes sense, but not recursing into subdirs is a non-starter, unless a repo happens to be totally flat...

I'm using gmail as well. Only logged into one account, using in incogneto. Originally tried in safari then moved to chrome incongnito based on some of what I read here

ionic raven
#

Or you flatten it. Or you add the other folders.

Remember that when it loads the files in, it just loads the text in directly to the prompt. the files and structure essentially cease to exist.

#

Tho I'd agree - you should report both bugs.

glass mirage
#

the structure is lost? That's surprising, given that examples in videos show responses that cite the files they came from. I guess that could be inferred

I've seen that before - which is why I suggest manually uploading yourself and having it load from drive.

#

I'd definitely report that and show them the console. {:

wooden flume
#

yes!!

#

lots of people get this issue

#

but when they use the workaround they dont bother reporting

#

so pls people report the issue when you run into it 😭

sinful lion
#

only console message

glass mirage
#

what's the best avenue to report?

sinful lion
wooden flume
sinful lion
#

only errors I'm seeing

#

there's def a lot of network actiity tho

#

lots of repeated calls to gen access token

glass mirage
#

network panel, not javascript console

#

oh, that may be the network panel, it's tightly cropped so I reacted to the formatting

sinful lion
#

that's the network call log. Error is from a 400 response

glass mirage
#

400, or 403?

sinful lion
#

hehe, ya was trying to make it legible

#
  1. Was seeing 403s earlier, so this might be different
glass mirage
#

this is what I end up seeing:

sinful lion
#

well it's certianly not doing nothing 😅

glass mirage
#

I will say I first figured out my adblocker was getting in the way, though I have this problem after fixing that

sinful lion
#

ya I assumed that was what happened before I tried incognito

glass mirage
#

I'm gonna upload a .tar as a .txt and see if that works

#

well, it seems to work, so mv code.tar code.txt and uploading one file might be a decent workaround:

sinful lion
#

I think it actually worked! Upload to drive -> import that way. Just... took a while

wooden flume
#

probably caller does not have permission

#

could you do the same too @sinful lion

#

400 is interesting

sinful lion
#

upload worked!

ionic raven
#

And I can't find the message above - but the best way to report is via the three dots in the upper right hand corner of AI Studio.

sinful lion
#

Upload directly tries to upload to drive first, creating duplicates, and that upload seems to fail for me

#

Granted, it’s a big repo

#

765k tokens haha

ionic raven
#

not bad. my multi-file test came in at about 660k tokens.
