basically suspended structures, but instead of 3 hanging buildings, its a ton of unconnected, floating blocks (like next to the school, near the fire exit, or just between the buildings)
where the whole thing wont fall down just because you destroyed a few of them

would have some interesting possibilities regarding structure
one that actually imitates the usual floating platforms
one that looks like a fortress
one that maybe looks like an actual blocky videogame island
maybe a donut shaped on right above one of the giant jump pads

perhaps the pathways to it could also have some interesting variants too
one being random blocks that you have to parkour across
checkerboard pattern where you need to be careful to not fall off
a snaking path with blocks for cover

there are a bunch of good options we could consider for this
and i think it would fit pretty well into sys' blocky style

I agree that it should be changed. Not removed, because we already have a pretty limited pool of unique maps as it is, but Kyoto needs some work, imo.

My thoughts: Even though Kyoto is technically a very vertical level, the layout being so spaced out makes it feel flat and empty, and really alters the pacing of the game, and not in what I feel is a fun way. Having to constantly traverse large, open spaces without the option to make your own routes via environment destruction makes movement feel like a chore instead of a game. And the bamboo, while gorgeous in this game engine, is so frustrating to deal with when you either get stuck on a weird bit of world geometry every 10 feet, or have to deal with the trees blocking your shots as you try to engage other players. What I would think is a good solution is to just effectively shrink the map, and bring all the buildings and other points of interest closer together, condensing the map. Although I'm sure that it's not as simple a task as I'm making it out to be, and is probably about an equal amount of work to developing an entire map from scratch, so maybe other solutions like more ziplines/jump pads on the map could work to make getting around a little faster/more interesting.

I think it's the best-looking map in the game, but I don't feel like that translates directly into being the best-feeling.

If we shrink it to be like half or even a quarter of its original size, but make it mostly vertical towers, then that would make it a lot more fun, especially if some of the towers are destructible and some are not

I think the Power Shift platform route for Seoul should be adjusted. A very annoying meta has emerged where players will destroy the central building completely (making the most heavily-contested spot on the map frustrating to traverse due to the debris blocking access/visibility) and just snipe or spam GLs from the crane/mall roof. If both teams end up doing the same strat, the platform hardly moves at all and the match feels unfulfilling, even if you win. I think switching it to the Under Construction variant and having the platform start from the central tower would allow for better flow in a match, and it would open up a huge chunk of the map that's otherwise never used in Power Shift, instead of funneling everybody down a single, narrow chokepoint.

I was actually just recently thinking about what a mostly-indoor stage could be like. I was thinking something like a megablock building from Dredd or Cyberpunk 2077; just a massive, hulking tower large enough to be broken into individual districts, with a central hollow shaft area for elevators or moving platforms for quickly rising/dropping from floor to floor. Maybe different quick routes between floors. The "base" of each section could be indestructible to prevent somebody from just taking the whole thing down all at once. Could have a massive jump pad right in the center of the main shaft at the bottom floor that takes you instantly to the top floor. I feel like that kind of verticality would result in some really fun, chaotic interactions.

I would like to see the winter map in the European setting. It would be a large castle-fortress in the mountains next to a small village in the lowlands, surrounded by high stone walls, Gothic architecture and snowy forests. You can defend yourself like knights standing on the walls or move through a variety of underground passages or through spacious rooms inside the castle itself. And you could fall off a cliff into an abyss by carelessness, like in Seoul. Perhaps someone imagined Hogwarts, it really fits the description

what if kyoto was sliced apart into chunks? So it can function more like the other maps in the game with air gaps between platforms with launch pads and ziplines to traverse? As it stands the map feels super out of place but This might help tie it in more. This way we could remove a bunch of the sprawling open sections that are unfun to fight in/ traverse while keeping the main buildings.

I also think the weakest design of the map is the building basements. I dont mind fighting in the structures at all except for when its dropped into the basement with VERY poor cover options.

To me fits the goofy feeling I sometimes get playing this game with weird but awesome skins and so on. I do not see us disagreeing. in a historically accurate map "theming" and gameplay are interconnected. layouts, sightlines etc. are the consequence of a different urban style which hinders the base gameplay of the game. the foliage is a useful example of this: it is historically accurate but hinders urban conflict and kills performance.

hence: "please no 2nd historical map debacle after Kyoto. it just does not fit the game."

What you say is rather fair. But I'd like to remind you there were other historical places as old or even older than that version of Kyoto that had less "mountainous" terrain and more interconnected buildings. Think about London, for example :^)

The destruction in the maps is the big draw S we all know. It would be nice if they turned that strategic, meaning if you get hit by a piece of building you take damage or you fall a few stories.. also. Add Amusment park map!!! Getting smashed by a falling roller coaster would be epic

Series S / EU servers ? The game bogs down for me like crazy at kyoto. I even aim down sight or go full trigger and no sight or no bullets come out. New controller, fine wired connection. All there orange / red icons ((package loss)) came in around season 3 and went up on frequency in S4. S1 and S2 worked smooth for me. Maybe it's a bigger player base issue.

Before we get new maps I miss special conditions in S3 and S4 maps, I mean like sandstorm Vegas, catastrophe Monaco, under construction Seoul... I haven't seen any variation in the last 2 maps
