Final Fantasy VII Remake is visually stunning and has some incredible soundtracks, however it fails as a video game in creating engaging gameplay and establishing consistent story telling.

The game has terrible pacing and bad writing, it does not value your time, and between every actually meaningful narrative, is filled with meaningless side quests and slow, tedious, repetitive actions. The combat mechanic is very interesting on its own, it is able to hold enough depth and attacks feel satisfying. But everything about it gets worse when you realize every enemy is made out of sponges and most of the time its just smashing the same button to fill up ATB. (Also which genius from SE thinks using item consumes ATB is a good idea?) Enemy types are very limited in this game and encounters suffer from repetition. Boss designs are horrible, honestly some of the worst boss fight experiences for me, most of them are filled with weird tracking attacks that you cannot dodge, massive area damage that you can not dodge, and crazy hit detection that you cannot dodge. Evading doesn't do anything and blocking is extremely ineffective. It feels like the designers of this game had never considered how the players will actually engage with those enemies, the only thing they seem to care about is how cool are the attacks, (which a lot the results are actually cringy).

In my opinion, FF7 Remake has an appealing story, excellent combat foundation, which are all backed up by breathtaking visuals and music, however the poor execution in pacing and lazy padding in game design ruins the experience for me.
