i think that was the point. it's that elidibus is this shell of his old self running on the will of his original self. and throughout the course of 5.3, even if it was short, we got to know that he's doing his duty because that's all he can do at that point. and when he was dying, he felt like he can finally join those who died and not left alone anymore. that's how i see that ending
