How do I unlock melding?

Complete Forging the Spirit (materia extract/npc melding) and Waking the Spirit (player melding) in Central Thanalan.

How can I get my gear melded?

To meld visible Materia slots a NPC melder in any major city will do (marked with a Blue Materia icon on the map). To overmeld gear you'll need to request another player to meld your gear or to do it yourself.

Why can't I meld this Materia to my stuff?

Every Tier of Materia has a minimum item level requirement that gear must meet to allow melding of that Tier. Tier 6 Materia requires an item level of 290 while Tiers 7 and 8 require an item level of 420.

Why is my meld giving +0 stats?

Every item has a maximum amount of stats that can be given through melding and the natural stats found on the gear. This can be seen at the bottom of the Materia Melding menu, as seen in the picture below.

The secondary stat with a higher number is already at the cap and cannot be further melded.

No not really. Some gearsets drop in dungeons, some are crafted, others are from tomestones (grindable currency) and there's even gear from raids (both casual and endgame)

Endgame raids drop the strongest combat gear although people often use crafted gear at the start of a new raid tier to kickstart their progression

Although it's worth pointing out you don't actually need endgame raid gear for anything except more efficient endgame content grinding or things like Ultimate raids

Sure. You can always get gear back one way or the other

If you're being prudent with armory chest space the smart way to do things is to level classes that share gear at the same time

My crafters are lvl 43, and I enjoy crafting a lot, and I know there are is crafting related content unlocked at lvl 50.

Global CoolDown is the shared cooldown in a lot of attacks, when you use one of them, you cant use any of them until 2.5 seconds have passed.
And Off Global CoolDown are the other skills, the ones that dont share cooldown with others.
So while you're waiting 2.5 seconds for doing another skill GCD (like the thrust combos in Dragoon) you can do the attack Jump, because Jump is OGCD

for example any of the crafter job quest items typically sell well for stupidly high prices as long as the item isn't oversaturated in your server

that does take some research but if you can find out what sells well just go ham

also retainers can gather stuff for you that typically sells well, such as grade 3 thanalan topsoils (lvl 50)

they can gather stuff that's rather annoying to get, such as mats from unspoiled nodes

could sell alot of shortswords for 30k

you dont want to just mass craft it tho, always check the "purchase history" and make sure ppl are actually buying the thing

otherwise its gonna sit and collect dust while u try to sell it

what u can do is sort items by Demand using the filter on Marketboard and try to sell those items

I’m playing this game mostly by myself and only really doing the msq’s I find the rest of it overwhelming with all the different type of quests...also the loot isn’t that great so far I’m still using level 50 ironworks stuff mostly

That's perfectly normal, honestly.

You'll eventually get to a settlement called Idyllshire as you progress through the MSQ, where you'll be able to pick up the level 60 equivalent to your Ironworks gear (Shire).

But that won't be until like, level 58 MSQ

Not at all. The MSQ is a huge part of the game. Almost everything is locked behind reaching certain points in the MSQ.

PotD you should have access to. That becomes available at level... 15? I think? There's a in New Gridania called "The House That Death Built" which will lead you to unlock it.

AI party dungeons for lower levels (ARR), are made available through your Grand Company squadrons.

PotD is basically an alternative leveling method. It's not the best for a first job or for tanks and healers, who typically have quicker queue times. But it gives fairly decent experience for time spent for dps with standard dungeon queue times greater than 10 minutes.

Squadrons are only able to do specific dungeons up to level 50. The Shadowbringers Trusts are a completely different system, which only (currently) includes Shadowbringers MSQ dungeons - both of the leveling variety, and the level 80 variety. The two optional ShB dungeons are not currently included.

You aren't required to use either system if you don't want to. Shadowbringers dungeons can be done with an AI party the first time you do them, however if you want to use the AI party for subsequent runs, you'll need to run them through several times to level up the AI characters in order to reach the level requirements for the next dungeons.

Oh, is it 60 for squadrons? I thought it was only leveling dungeons to 50 for them, and cap dungeons after that.

Honestly unless you want the gear for glamour purposes, outside of maybe some accessories since those are harder to come by pre-50, you'll go through gear so quickly that buying or crafting anything other than level cap gear is a waste of time and mats.

@cunning raptor Fun little dungeon tidbit too: Copperbell Mines (Hard) mobs also have an aggro tether. It's the only dungeon in the game that does this throughout, though the room where there's two on the side in Copperbell Normal also have tether.

dungeons are 4 man content. You can eventually solo them but you have to outlevel and outgear them heavily. You also have to check the option to enter the dungeon "unsynced"

all dungeons/raid are instanced. Some Main Story Quest areas and private rooms are also instanced

Dungeons are not procedural generated, always have 4 bosses and have a established backstory. They also usually have exclusive armor/weapons but they are mostly for looks

No, buying a mount with real money is exactly the same as an in game mount except for the SDS Fenrir

it starts with 1 star of enhanced movement speed for land travel

but once you unlock flying, its completely moot.

the only thing of note is that you can buy multi-seat mounts and free multi-seat mounts are slightly hard to get free
