I've heard houses don't have taxes at this time in lieu of COVID. I'm new to the game and hoping to purchase a home but nothing is available... when will land become available again? If no homes expire, how can newer players enjoy this aspect of the game?

Houses never have taxes.
What's been suspended during COVID is the auto-demolition timer--normally, if you don't use your house for 45 days you forfeit it.
You've literally just missed out on three new wards being added to each housing district, by under a week.

Edelgard simp Meara The system isn't the FC's, is the games. The game has locked certain elements of crafting around a bizarre system that doesn't facilitate trust. This is not a complaint in any way against any FC, or how they deal with the FC crafting- because it's not their fault it's a bad system. I don't get to choose to have certain recipes locked out from me, that otherwise I could sit their and craft, no matter how many hundreds of materials or steps existed. I have a house- why not let me have a workshop? That's basically how it works anyway.
