It might be worth learning the EX fights for the Unreal versions though. Currently there is Shiva Unreal, which is the same as Shiva EX but synced to level 80. That will eventually be swapped out with new trial, but we don't know which one will be next.

@onyx kiln At any level below 80, it doesn't matter. Go get mineral water, raisins or boiled eggs because they're the cheapest. At 80, check balance for the best food for your job. Generally you can't go wrong with vitality and crit/dh/det.

For that quest you should only need a level 5 hat, your other starter gear has the correct minimum ilevel
As for the merchants... there should be a vendor close to the quest objective who sells level 5+ armor.

The subscription days only counts for 1 friend, so a total of 15 for 270 days regardless of how many friends you recruited.
so 25 feathers if you get 5 friends and another 15 when any of the 5 friends sub for 270 days
