@tawdry otter the level 80 relic quest chain requires completion of all three of the 24 man raids from Stormblood. After you do that, your first resistance relic is free, and you can get more for other classes for 1000 poetics each. They are ilvl 485.
It's the ideal starting point at 80 due to low effort

content is locked behind story so to gain the freedom to do things and go places you'll have to do it, but once it opens up and you can switch between jobs and do side stuff like crafting and gathering, it can be pretty diverse

depends on how hard in diffculty you're willing/comfortable with.
At the base level there's the dungeons and normal mode 8-man raids, along with the 24-man raids. there's also the normal mode 8-man trials
Past that there's Extreme Trials, which are the 8-man trials with much harder mechanics and generally more challenging as a whole.

Then there's the savage raids, the first 1-2 fights of a tier being about equal in difficulty to most extreme trials, with the 3rd and 4th fight of a tier being harder as a whole along with the 4th fight usually having a new phase entirely.
