Only the sds fenrir is slightly faster at the start of a new zone as it has tier 1 speed by default. However story gives you Tier 1 speed after abit so the speed boost becomes mute later

I think they're talking about if your map timer isn't on cooldown, you can gather one, but if you're looking to gather a different hidden item, the map has a tendency to show up on a node instead. I had it happen to me yesterday. Was trying to gather hidden logs, but the trees only ever had a map as their hidden item until I finally took a map.
