Well, if you're talking about the aspected crystals, you can actually stock them up. While the quest for the crystals is active, you can get as many crystals as you want. I did my last anima with a friend and we did the Azys La fates together. By the time my friend got their fire crystal, I had like 5.

Melee dps available from the start are lancer (becomes dragoon, slower GCD, long 10-button combo rotation that repeats quitestrictly) pugilist (becomes monk, faster GCD, unique combo system, timer upkeep) and after level 10 rogue (becomes ninja, which is pretty busy but not too overwhelming, fast GCD, "ninjutsu" system where you press buttons in different combinations to get different "spell" effects)
