I don't understand when exactly to use Passage of Arms either, it seems weird. My usual thing is "use Sheltron when I have the Oath and cooldown mitigation when it isn't" for mobs and for bosses "use Cover/Intervention occasionally, using cooldowns if it's the last one." I occasionally use Provoke/Shirk in dual tank content if needed, which hasn't been often.

i know you probably dont have to swtich gear, but to give a more realistic example, you just did a lvl 40 dungeon a few times and got some of the pink lvl 40 gear, then you get to level 45 and get some grey gear that is better, but then you do the 40 dungeon again synced to 40, are you now weaker than if you had kept on the 40 gear?

'When can I get my first mount?'

The quest that allows you to use mounts, 'My Little Chocobo' is unlocked by completing the level 20 main story quest 'The Company You Keep'. The quest is located at the Grand Company base you chose and you'll need to buy the Chocobo Issuance from your Grand Company Quartermaster. You can get the 200 needed Grand Company seals by doing the main story quest that comes after 'The Company You Keep'.

'Are there any differences between mounts?'

Besides looks, all mounts are the same speed along with being able to fly in the expansion zones. Some mounts allow multiple people to ride at once.

'Can I make my mount faster?'

Zones have one or two ranks of mount speed that increase the ground speed of mounts. The first rank comes from completing specific quests in the main scenario quests, with the second rank coming from Riding Maps which are bought with either Allied Seals, Centurio Seals, or Bicolor Gemstones. Mount Speed Boosts do not increase the flying speed of mounts.

Once you're 50 on AST it pretty much plays like this

in dungeons

Trash = get three unique seals up by using Draw/Redraw + Play to get the ones you need. Once you have them, keep them by using Draw/Redraw + Minor Arcana

Then at start of bosses you'll have a 3 seal Divination and, ideally, 2 back to back Minor Arcana usages

Keep in mind you do not get a seal unless you're in combat

so make sure to whack an enemy first before playing a card

@unreal sierra Shadowbringers consists of the three expansions. If you do not own the base game, that will not get you what you need. You will either need to buy starter (which if your family is all going to be on free trial for a long time, is the "cheaper option") or complete.

Complete, iirc, is on sale right now so probably smartest to just get that

Black Mage has high personal DPS, with zero party buffs. but like all classes, it's viable and desired in groups. It requires a bit more knowledge to do even moderately well because you need to stand still to cast spells and some fights require a lot of movement
