can also buy shire gear with poetics in idyllshire to boost your ilvl

FF games are all separate unless obviously are. You'll just miss out on some references and stuff. Other than that there is something you could watch if you want to grab some more lore before you go in. There was a bad version of this game that came out and yadda yadda, they killed it and remade the game but the plot of the original version is still around and this remade version takes place 5 years after the failed version. There is an official recap video made that summarises what happened in the original version if you wanted. It's not needed but might help with understanding some of the early level things
