Shield don't stay forever on your target

As it will naturally disappear

So to get value out of a shield heal, you want the shield portion to soak up a lot of damage

@mossy tartan generally speaking in dungeons, unless the tank pulls 3+ groups (and even then, later on, it still wont apply because your kit gets better) you should never be having to just chain cast heals. It almost always means the tank didnt use CD's.

@mossy tartan Ah, dw about it much then, the tank should've just done smaller pulls if he was dying to em. Lots of things that could go wrong. Your gear level might be a bit low, his might be a bit low, your healing might not be optimal, his dmg mitigation might not be optimal, maybe your dps'rs are taking too long to kill

It was removed with Reclaim because it wrecked the market for glamour.

though note they won't be able to overmeld, you'll have to ask another player to do that

overmeld is putting more materia onto crafted gear. So normally gear has between 1-2 slots of materia (the green circles)

How do I unlock melding?

Complete Forging the Spirit (materia extract/npc melding) and Waking the Spirit (player melding) in Central Thanalan.

How can I get my gear melded?

To meld visible Materia slots a NPC melder in any major city will do (marked with a Blue Materia icon on the map). To overmeld gear you'll need to request another player to meld your gear or to do it yourself.

Why can't I meld this Materia to my stuff?

Every Tier of Materia has a minimum item level requirement that gear must meet to allow melding of that Tier. Tier 6 Materia requires an item level of 290 while Tiers 7 and 8 require an item level of 420.

Why is my meld giving +0 stats?

Every item has a maximum amount of stats that can be given through melding and the natural stats found on the gear. This can be seen at the bottom of the Materia Melding menu, as seen in the picture below.

The secondary stat with a higher number is already at the cap and cannot be further melded.

Keep in mind that the level for both SCH and SMN is based on Arcanist, not on themselves. So if you hit 80 on SCH and decide you want to check out SMN later, it'll be level 80 (but wont have all of its abilities from doing the job quests yet)
