Happy and starting fresh on a new character after finally getting together enough $$$ for a consistent sub and I've wrapped up ARR and am running around picking up some of the the fun bonus stuff I missed the first time I played. My first instinct now is to jump into the patch content to start wading through the slog towards HW, but I've seen some folks saying it's worth it to just mess around in base game until the next patch since all the filler is going to be slimmed down. What are y'all's opinions?

@tulip plover Defiance is your tank stance and should always be on when you're tanking so you establish and maintain enmity. Provoke is for when you don't have initial enmity on your target and you need to quickly take it from whoever has it

whether that be because they were super nice/performed well/communicated

You can activate them in character config > hotbars or Hud Layout
As for the "duplicate" set of the crossbar, that's WXHB and is accessed by double-tapping R2 or L2. Basically easier way to press more buttons
I generally only put lesser-used skills on WXHB since I usually found myself clipping my GCD if I don't do it super fast.

Also for the bigger hotbar that intersects the crossbar, I generally put one skill on one side or each side that have important buffs or cooldowns that I use often, like Sharpcast.

Red Mage looks like they have a lot of free movement with Dualcasting, but it's somewhat restrictive because you're relying on being able to cast your spell to set up dual-casting

the braindead method that people used to do is crafting Militia Bracelets and turning those in for seals
since they only require one crafting material
