assuming this is your first character going by that though, palace of the dead isn't what you should be using to hit 40 for the first time

White Mage is a lot more reactionary and does more simple healing and damage with less gimmicks

There's no reason not to max your grand company. They occasionally add useful crafting materials to it along with things like ventures for your retainers. Ranking up also increases the number of GC seals you can hold which is just all-around useful for buying t hose useful items when they get added
As for Squadrons specifically,you have to rank them up to unlock higher ranks in your grand company for yourself

I get that you need to change one piece of gear to look like another with the prisms, but can you apply one item's appearance to another repeatedly? Asking since the cosmetic purchases on the Mogstation for instance state, that they're only being delivered to one character (makes sense) and are single use only, as in you'd have to buy something multiple times if you wanna change multiple pieces of gear to look like that item (while leveling up and changing gear for intance).

@storm hinge if you want to step into raiding savage asap, buying the neo-ishgardian and melding it (no need to overmeld) is a good starting point. it basically lets you skip the phanta/eden verse normal grind
allegory is weekly capped so its going to be something you slowly work towards. if you have a group or can find party finder group for it, you can also try miseria memoria ex to get the 480 gear instead of buying neo

Same way you apply it to any gear.
You may have to remove it from them first, I can't recall.
If the "apply glamour" option isn't there when looking at their currently equipped gear, then take it off them into your inventory and do it.

@agile laurel if your retainer's appearance is not already saved, then you can use a retainer fantasia, go into the interface to edit their appearance, confirm their appearance without actually making any changes, and then you should get the little prompt asking "save appearance data?"

i need some help with materia, my breast piece is iLvl 270 and i want to meld i.e. crit into it. the only crit materia i find on the MB are either iLvl 160 and the next one would be iLvl 290. in the meld window it tells me, that the materia is too low level to use it on my armor piece, so i can't use any materia with iLvl 270?

You need to use the tier V materia for the Shire Gear.
The Sceavan gear has the same "issue" with the grade VII/VIII materia. (i390 or i400, materia wants i420)

because the 8 man maps can open a portal to a treasure dungeon, which is what you're usually aiming for when you do treasure maps

@gritty oracle to note regarding your auto question, you have to manually initiate auto attacks for casters/healers. Weaponskills toggle this on when they're used so like DoW it'll turn on for them. But like in your example for SCH spamming art of war you'll have to initiate the autos with right click, they won't automatically turn on

lower levels it can add up slightly, but since you don't get any STR, you don't really get increased scaling as you level up, for auto attack damage
like, you'll get maybe 10 dps, probably less, from autos
and that's for like, full uptime and it's not costing you anything to auto
so it's the sort of thing that, it doesn't hurt to turn on and it is technically free damage. But it won't really make any bit of difference whether you do or not
