dark knight/ astrologian/ machinist just happen to be extra interesting in requiring story progression because you need to be far enough in the story to reach the area they are in to unlock
the other expansion jobs gunbreaker/dancer/red mage/samurai just require you to be at the right level

@leaden ginkgo you’ll have to manually remove anything yourself. As for the retainer double check if the item can go into the armoire, items that can have the icon that looks like the armoire on the tooltip lit up

Then make sure to go into the custom tab to actually enable thr wxhb, which is the double tap trigger button
You can also just manually turn on normal hotbars via the hud editor or the character config and drag skills onto them to keep an eye on their cooldown

you don't need to be, but the road to 70 is a very strong buff that applies to all classes/jobs when below 70
so its pretty strongly recommended for new players since it makes leveling in general a lot easier, and leveling alts a fair bit quicker

that just adds extra time past those free 30 days, and allows you access to the rewards right away

@olive sand not really? The only one you’d really use is the one for manually placing them in a spot and sic to make them change targets.
Sidequests are pretty mediocre experience once you can do dungeons at 15.
Though they’re pretty okay to do while you’re waiting in a dungeon queue

1 do I press this button very often, occasionally, or only when absolutely necessary? this determines whether i should keep them close and easy to press, or out of my reach so i don't press them by accident
2 is this Ability on 30s, 60s, or 120s cooldown? the shorter the cooldown, the more often i should press this, and therefore, should be made easy to press
3 will i use this while moving around? if so, then i should make it easy to press this when i am pressing WASD (or in controller, while using my left stick)
