started to lvl gathering job yesterday and I really enjoy it, simple, fast, and cost nothing unlike crafting jobs lol.
But I have a question : does high lvl gathering requires absolutely overmelded max ilvl gear to get good materials like crafters absolutely needs perfect gear to achieve expert recipes? Same question for rotations, do I need to master every skill of the gathering jobs to gather high lvl materials (like crafting is impossible without mastering skills) or I can just come and farm easy with cheap gear and not high knowledge about skills ?

And some buying from NPCs if you need to fill stuff out. To start with, you'll be changing your gear out pretty often so don't worry too much about any of it
Selling stuff to NPCs is fairly useless except for special tokens you can get from quests. When you get choices for gear, it'll usally have a token worth X gil that you can choose. It's heavily favored towards endgame content. There are some things available early like a couple of races and... maybe some jobs?... but a lot of it requires you to finish the base game MSQ first.

You can change a lot of the HUD through the HUD layout option in the main menu. Resize stuff, move it, hide it, change forms, etc. Though I've never thought about making the mini-map bigger so IDK if you can. I just always keep the full map open. There are some mods out there but I honestly have no clue as to what they do or whether they're allowed or tolerated or whatever (I'm guessing not but /shrug).

@lethal mural assigning a job to a retainer is a bit interesting, and generally depends on what you want your retainer to do (gathering crafting mats / gathering mob drops). Your retainer also can only be assigned jobs you have unlocked, and can only level up as far as you have for that level (ie. you can't get a level 80 WAR retainer if you don't haven't level WAR to 80).
If you want to assign a retainer an upgraded job (ie, GLD -> WAR) you have to be level 50 in that class, and the retainer has to be level 30 in the base class. Then you purchase Modern Vocation from a retainer advocate in one of the three main cities for 40 ventures to apply the upgraded job.
For special classes introduced in expansions (DRK, SAM, GNB, etc.) you need the player to be level 50 in the class for HW/SB advanced classes and level 60 for ShB advanced classes. The retainer will need to be a level 50 DoW/DoM for HW/SB advanced classes or a level 60 DoW/DoM for ShB advanced classes. They also cannot have an upgraded job assigned to them (ie. you could do it for a 50/60 gladiator retainer but not a 50/60 warrior retainer). This also requires a copy of Modern Vocation.
