You should probably start with buying a full Neo-Ishgardian set off the board
Then you can get your relic weapon if you don’t have it, and then farm Memoria Misera for the armor
The armor should last you until you get to i500, though you’ll still have to spend allegory in the Crystarium pieces you’ll have to upgrade later
And once you’re at the appropriate ilvl for Eden’s verse savage you can start working on that

In XIV crafting, You need to worry about 4 factors, CP, Durability, Progress, and quality.
You spend CP to use skills. CP is a stat, and it is your mana point, but it is refresh to max everytime you start a new recipe.
Durability is how many skills you can use before the material break. There are skills to reduce durability loss.
Progress is what you add to finish the craft. How much Progress is added is affected by your Craftsmanship stat.
Quality determines the chance you will produce a High quality item. More quality = higher chance for HQ. How much Quality is added is affected by your Control stat

I almost never pay attention to names in the party menu, and the only reason I have party member names "on in combat" is so that I can easily track their locations for positioning purposes.
Basically, almost nobody cares what your character name is in pugs unless you're being called out for something, and even then, they're gonna call you by your job or your first name.

i wish i could figure out how to make it only have a health bar and a class icon show in the battle area, would simplify things a lot. generally I keep names off because it gets too jumbled and with low party effects typically i can keep an eye on them visually but seeing classes would be really nice.

In the party list if you set your name settings to "initials only" (I think it's in the character settings menu under display names), then all that shows are the players initials, job icon, and hp/mp bars.
You can also turn off player names over their heads entirely by setting the "other player characters" show names setting to "never", which will only show you a health bar for them if they are under 100% hp.
There is, unfortunately, no way to show a job icon over the player's head though.
