huh i guess that conversation went on without me for a bit, active mitigation in WoW tanking is usually short cooldown abilities/spenders that do a smallish amount of absorb, that you are expected to have in your rotation sufficiently to keep up at all times

they kinda vary between armor increase, block/parry chance increase, straight damage reduc

Two years is the typical cycle for MMO expansions. FFXIV in particular modeled a lot of things after WoW, which also does a two-year expansion cycle (their next expansion is set to come out sometime this summer or fall).
