currently at the halfway point, and im just wondering since i think they can only be useful for cul mats
Shark mount
It's a fun gatherer and is a part of the gathering leveling achivements
If you care for the titles
oo
Some of the rarer fish can be desynthed into glamour gear
wait really?
Really? Huh
Question is, is it good glamor
It’s also a remarkably chill job, in my experience

HW/SB hunt trains, along with daily+weekly hunting bills
how do u find hunt trains?
Hunt Linkshells
ask around on your server in the cities or endgame hubs
Some show up in party finder too
where can i go to look for open free companies. I'm looking for friendly people to play with o.o
what server are u in?
sorry ><
u just have to get lucky tbh
when i was a noob someone just approached me and asked me to join their fc

Has the maintenance started?
Is there maintenance sometimes shorter?
they sometimes do open it early but most of this expansion has always been a full maint this time around
relic has never been weekly limited though fwiw
more because of eden (weekly reset), not from relic trial
I'm a FF14/mmo noob, but I been wondering. What's a Static?
Group that gets together to do stuff
A group of people that meet up on a set/agreed upon time to do content
Mainly high end content
Ah okay, thank you, that makes a lot of sense.
Well. Wrong wording, I understand now. Apologies.
It sounds like a deep dungeon
It's for the relic, but what it entails entirely we don't know yet
Deep Dungeon should come next patch based on patterns in 3.3 and 4.3?
There won't be any 5.0 deep dungeon
Aw
What I remember them saying is that if they are doing one it may not be until 5.4/5.5
hey, so I bought the lvl50 ironwork armor of fending, what’s the next armor I should get? now I’m lvl 52
If you augment the armor it can last until 54/55
but for the non-augmented you'll replace it with HQ level 52 crafted gear and the level 53 dungeons et
aha
ok, so I was thinking that it might be better to start crafting so I can make my own armor, is it hard to craft HQ?
you don't really need to craft your own stuff for leveling up.
I usually just get by with the tomestone/dungeon gear for past 50.
I see, I was thinking that it will make crafting easyer if I lvl my craft in tandem with my job lvl
at least for blacksmith an weapons
Somewhat confusingly, quest rewards are typically crafted gear, and starting with Heavensward, you get HQ crafted from quests
so if someone says to get HQ crafted gear, they don't necessarily mean craft it yourself, or even buy it from other players
Like Wynne said after 50 you want to use tomestone items, theyre better than crafted
You might get it from MSQ and/or sidequests
they're not always better than crafted, it's just what I do.
Stats are determined entirely on the ilvl of the item and if it's HQ (if it's crafted)
I might not like to farm that dungeon untill I get an whole set for my DRK
But crafting HQ at those lvls are just not worth it imo
You might be lucky and find cheap HQ vendor gear on the MB
since some people sell the quest rewards
aha
I will need gil for that since I don’t have any income of gil what I have will dry quickly
What I do is at 50/60/70 I get the tomestone gear and replace it with dungeons gear as it drops
hm, thing is I might get tired of farming dungeons for gear, and my drive for farming dungeons is glamour, so I don’t wanna farm to many dungeons for glamour AND gear
for crafting I changed my mind with the dificulty in getting gear
I usually don't farm the dungeon for the whole set and just take whatever gear it gives and go to the next dungeon
ohh I dont mean farm dungeons for gear, youre farming EXP the gear is just a bonus, but thats if youre farming dungeons for EXP at all
Hey y'all! New to FF14 and I have some questions if no one minds
ok, so next question is about crafting, do I need gathering to craft? I also don’t like the idea of farming dungeons or whatever to get the mats , so my way of crafting is to buy the mats and then craft to make gill, then do that untill I have enough gill to buy more mats to craft more to get more gill

You gather from mining nodes or from tree/bushes
I just complicated stuff didn’t I?
You don't go into dungeons to get mats for your crafters
probably should lvl your gatherer if u rly want to make cash with crafting
And no, you don't need to level gatherer for your crafters
It is self sustain
Very very convenient
oh that’s good
But not absolute
Do note that profit margins will be slimmer if you don't gather your own stuff
are the new skysteel weapons supposed to be the new bis
or are they just like glamour
tools*
not weapons sorry
if they'll work like the Relic weapons, they'll be the best in the end
it's hard to say for sure
Which last for 6-9 months
since the first (and previously only) set of 'relic' weapons for crafters were like the only tools they used.
Everything in this game is optional
correction: they were the only primary tools for level 50, besides the later-added Artisan stuff
The only contents that needed the absolute best gears are Ultimate raid
Everything else can be done in decent gears
A while back I bought shadowbringers a long time ago and the sub ran out. Can I not play still even on a lvl 35 or lower?
Nope, once you register the game you can't use the trial anymore.
You will get free 30 days though
Ik I used it already
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Unless you really stretch out 1-35
By doing all sidequest
All combat classes + gatherer/crafters
You generally don't lose much from missing these free period
Well I like impulse bought the game
And didnt have anyone to play with got overwhelmed then quit 3 days later
I think I got to like lvl 7
So was hoping I could still do trial to see if I wanted to go back lol
And didnt have anyone to play with got overwhelmed then quit 3 days later
Ahh, I see
make a new trial account then
I can understand why people like to play in group
and try if u want to come back later on your full account
You can make a throwaway trial account if you want to
Another option is to wait for free login week
So if I just make a new account can I still use the launcher I bought on steam?
Which happens I would say 2-3 times a year?
probably will need to download a new launcher since trial and normal one aren't the same
Hello, I am trying to buy the game , if I get this, do I get the registration code to update it to permanent on my MOG account?
yeah you'll get a code
@wispy dust jotaro but it's actually yugi
@thick pagoda kinda? You'll need to make a new steam account since your current one is linked to your old account.
@obsidian patio sigh that's a lot of relogging and downloading but alas
Complete edition is base game (lvl 1-50) and Shadowbringers (which is latest edition, but previous expansion are included in this one for free)
So I buy this, its cheaper , since its $59.99 from the MOG account, when I do I get a code on sent to my email that I put on here to activate my account.
@obsidian patio also another question, so things like gun breaker isn't available till max level?
!faq shbjobs
Shadowbringers Expansion Jobs: Gunbreaker (Tank) and Dancer (Ranged DPS). These jobs start at level 60 and require ownership of the Shadowbringers Expansion and a disciple of war or magic job at level 60.
Job Unlock Locations:
Gunbreaker - Gods' Quiver Bow at New Gridania (11,11), quest name is "The Makings of a Gunbreaker".
Dancer - Eager Lominsan at Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks (9,12), quest name is "Shall We Dance".
@wispy dust yep
You need to be level 60 to unlock Gunbreaker
or downloading the trial over the trial site without steam should probably a lil bit faster as to also make a new steam account
Once you have a lvl 60 combat job, you can go and unlock Gunbreaker
No matter where you are in the story
Excellent, now the only issue is my country is not listed on the selection when checking out. Is that going to be a problem?
@warped nest what's a disciple of war?
I see
Disciple of mage are magic range and healers
DoW/M is just in game term for all combat jobs
So another question, if I lvl a character to 35 would I be able to special change into an astrologian?
Astrologian is a tad more complicated
O
Astrologian, Machinist, and Dark Knight are expansion jobs from Heavensward expansion
You need to be inside expansion region to unlock them
Mhmhm
Stormblood and Shadowbringers jobs can be unlocked in ARR (base game) location
ARR?
Oh
Okay so I bought the shadowbringers edition from steam does that mean I have access to all content when I sub?
Yeah
Okay ty
Take note that you can only change class/job
Once you completed 1 lvl 10 class quest for any class
you just change which main arm you have equipped to change classes
Btw, 1 character can play all jobs
once you have access to 2 classes or jobs you also unlock gearsets
Just in case you aren't aware of that
So if I rolled a sorcerer then wanted to go into dk but then don't want that can I roll into gun breaker?
Gearset is how you save your gear setup and quickly swap between jobs
No ik that wht I said roll into x job
in this case, you equip a gunblade after you do the level 60 unlock quest
Wait if I am from Asia I should be buying in the PAL section not in NA right?
It depends on your trial account
You should be buying from the EU site
(EU and other regions to be exact)
also depends on where you are in asia
So equipin a gb makes me a gb and if I wanted to be sorcerer just equip a staff?
My trial account is SG since , my country is not listed.
since china and korea have their own clients
ah singapore
you should be fine with EU then
(is it singapore)
Im not from SG but its like the closest I could get from where I am
So equipin a gb makes me a gb and if I wanted to be sorcerer just equip a staff?
@thick pagoda yes
okay, PAL it is then, its like $10.00 more expensive
You have to do the opening quest for a new class
Ugh
@warped nest weird ty
Before you can equip a weapon
What Meara said
Ty
You need to do the starting quest
Also, my number one tip for any WoW player
this is a final fantasy game first and MMO second
Don't go and buy weapon and equip them on your own
Okay so do character boosts exslust?
plot is the main meat of this game
Exist*
there's no sylvanas in this game so you dont have to be ptsd about it anymore too
just enjoy story
Okay so it plays like an FF game?
Think of it as registering yourself with the mage guild as a fledgling mage
It is FF single player story with co-op dungeons
^
That's how I'd describe XIV
@echo tapir fuck sylvanas megalul. Killed out boy saurfang pepe
You have to play the plot to progress.
You can pay to skip the plot, but that's like paying to skip the endgame in WoW
Speaking of which, job skip only gets you to the beginning of the expansion.
OMG THATSBA REAL PERSON
*in terms of level
Skipping the plot is skipping the plot
I THOUGHT IT WAS THE BOT OML
lol
Yeah, neither story or job skip put you at maximum
Mhm
Story skip put you in the beginning of Shadowbringers
Hm
Whats a bot?
Job skip put you at 10 level below level cap (80)
@fresh lodge when lchronos did a command and you also talked so I thought you were a bot,,,,
Beep boop
Hehe
Speaking of which, a lot of your class actions are dripped though your class and job quests so like
please do them
Okay so question
Answer
Is job lvl the lvl of your character?
Yes
Yes
Weird
When you swap to a different job, you're that level
Only SMN/SCH
So if I'm lvl 80 max raid gear and then decided I wanted to roll a different class I'd start at lvl 1 and have to relvl?
yes
Some of the jobs start high
Or change class sorry
but you don't have to start as a new character
Shadowbringers jobs for example, start at lvl 60 when you unlock them
Expansions start at 30, 50, and 60 respectively
Expansion jobs
it's only A Realm Reborn jobs/classes which start at 1
What's max lvl? 80?
yes, currently
For now, yeah
Hm
The difference being, unlike in WoW, you're that class on that character. Matter of swapping a piece of gear to change your class, so you don't have to go through the entire plotline again
How long roughly does it take to lvl?
Quick question, my trial account is in JAPAN Data Center and I am buying the complete edition from the EU/PAL site. This wont be a problem?
what is your SE account region
Which Data center you play on doesn't matter
In hearing to lvl do the MSQs
Interestingly I am using a mog account and when I went to the NA and EU site they both logged me in automatically.
the MSQ gives you enough EXP to keep you leveled at roughly the same pace as the MSQ, unless you have Road to 70 EXP buff
I mean I hear the best way to lvl is just to do story line
yep
For your highest level job(s), yes
!faq gameregions
Like, 3-6 weeks depending on how often you play daily
And if you go off and do side contents
It's a pretty meaty story. Depending on if you beeline it and actually read through as it goes, you'll be playing it for a while
Or level a different job
i forgot how long ARR takes but expansions are 10-20 hours for "leveling" and 10-20 hours for the patch quests depending on your pace and/or distractions
Well it's quarantine so let's say unhealthy amounts at 10hrs a day
Oooof region cant be changed?
Why would it allow me to select the americas when my country is SG 😦
You can drive your Mustang in Japan, but it is still an American car
Humble Bundle should let you buy an NA key
That's how account works
unless you're on steam
Because there is only the Americas, Europe, and Japan regions
Well it's quarantine so let's say unhealthy amounts at 10hrs a day
@thick pagoda probably 4-5 weeks
it's Europe and Other Regions
@warped nest yikers
(is the full name of EU for FFXIV)
I know that a streamer manage to finish ARR, HW, and SB using the 1 free month from a Twitch promotion
A lot of Asia is lumped in with America
@thick pagoda each expansion is about the size of one full final fantasy game
thats reading and watching cs?
But I can still buy the NA complete edition and keep on playing in the Japan Data Center after upgrading my Mog account
yes
Yes
We don't recommend rushing
Game region doesn't affect what server you can play on
NA/EU/JP datacenters are on the global release version
Just pace yourself
@warped nest so let's say I sub now and start playing and get to class lvl 40 and my friend starts at 1 can I still play with them, if I just changed my class?
You can even queue dungeon with them using your level 40 job
'How do I get the bonus experience from the Armoury?'
As long as you're playing a Disciple of War or a Disciple of Magic class that's a lower level than your highest level class then you're able to benefit from the bonus experience. You do not need to have a class at level 80 for the bonus to be active.
'How much is the bonus experience?'
You get +100% experience from levels 1 to 69, which then reduces to +50% for level 70 to 79. The difference in level between your current class and highest class does not change the amount of experience you get.
Btw this game has level sync
Ohhhh okay
I am from the Bahamas then....weird
If your friend do a lvl 15 dungeon, the game will down sync your lvl 40 jobs to the maximum level of that lvl 15 dungeon (which is around 17/18)
Ik wow just did that so I didn't know if it wasn't newer thing
Buying from the NA site, playing in the JP Data center
i mean all FF11 players played in JP no matter which region they came from so
¯_(ツ)_/¯
You can't use a lvl 1 class to help your friend with their MSQ though
You can still walk on the open map with them
But you aren't going help much
Okay I'm sorry another question. So how's the end game content? Is it like WoWs? Or is there a stopping point where there's just nothing more to do?
Do we know where to go yet to start the new relic chain tomorrow?
kugane
Like can you beat ff14
@thick pagoda endgame tl;dr 4 current tier raids (we call them savage raids), two to three extreme raids, and one ultimate raid is usually relevant
In Endgame, people do the following:
- EX trials: in game mounts, glamour weapon
- Savage raid: weapon and armor
- Ultimate raid: bragging rights
Ultimate raid is challenge mode
yes, since you have to do the first tier to get BiS for Ultimate
But generally raiding is for bragging rights yeah
Savage raid is the more "proper" endgame
Wait so how long has shadowbringers been out?
a little less than a year
6 months?
actually wait
How long go expacs last?
two years
!expansion
Oh so this is still a new asf expac so still lots of content to come?
yep
Poggers okay then what am I worried about megalul
still one more tier, relic weapon grind, a possible suprise from the devs, and one more ultimate with 5.5 (later)
There are always new endgame to chase
Don't rush the story to chase the current endgame
So like rn in wow there's dailies, lvling your cloak by doing another piece of content, doing dungeons that increase is Difficultly, Is there smth like that in ff14?
daily roulettes
beast tribe quests
there's no difficulty increases for dungeons generally
If you're a new wow refugee, you'll be surprised at how nice the ff14 community is in game too
O
at most they'll take an old dungeon and put hard mode on it to "remix" it
It's very refreshing
but there's no difficulties on dungeons
Well my friend wants to get into the game and I whated to at one point
Daily roulette queue you up with other players who needed help, in return you get a very nice chunk of bonus exp. Sometimes you will be synced down to help out very new players with their low level dungeons too.
This is also how you will be getting party members when you do your dungeons
it's rare you get a dungeon at your level in roulette
Crafting
Lots of story
Pvp
Making Glamour, farming mounts
Leveling crafting and gathering
So not much
GLAMOUR IS ENDGAME
Some people do Deep Dungeon
roguelike dungeon crawler
There's "not much" if you're looking specifically for a replica of M+ Dungeon running.
If you finish the story and want to play something else
Yoshi-P have said that it's okay to unsub
Do that
There's a ton of content if you're open to doing anything other than M+ Dungeon running
most of the casual players only sub for the patch for the story
The game will give you ways to catch up to the latest endgame
Fair
Best thing is the free trial and try it
Myst did that
^
I think I'm putting wat to many comparisons between wow and ff14
If you play at a reasonable pace and enjoy story it will take you a few months to reach endgame tbh
Free Trial is very fair. Level 35 max on every job. Gets you pretty far into the ARR story
It is easier for you to understand XIV by comparing it with WoW
You can play with a controller
XIV is fantastic with controller
So you can be lazy af
As someone who came from WoW, I can at least relate. FFXIV is in a lot of ways similar, and in a lot of ways a very, very different game
Yes, people have raid with controller
I play laying in bed
In case you were wondering
Also Controller is such a fantastic experience. Makes the game feel like an adventure game
Well like again wow isn't like a story game where ff14 is and I'm thinking of M+ CONTENT
Its comfy
Did minions used to attack or something?
no
They are pets
Theres nothing like m+ in 14
minions have and are always been cosmetic
Do you ask your cat to attack your neighbors?
I play if with an controller cuz I really don’t like tab-targeting
however, you can use minions to fight in a Gold Saucer minigame
Played with a controller for so long I forgot how to craft a rotation with MKB...
Is there PvP?
Yes.
POG
That's the Lord of Verminion stat page
That's why i ask, just looking through guides
Sign me up
Thats for Lords of Verminion
Which is a mini game
PvP is a minigame, essentially
PVP is a side-focus
"PVP is a side-focus" is not unfamiliar to a WoW player though, lol
they tried balancing kits in PvP back in heavensward
it was a mess
so they revamped it in stormblood
it's still a mess but not as messy
Okay serious question
Sorry I'm addressing table
So lots of people use pvp in wow as their main content and don't even do pve content. Is pvp in ff14 similar?
I have not played far enough into the game to answer with any authority, but to my understanding, no.
not rly
you still need to level to 30 to unlock PVP, but yeah you can do that.
PvP gear doesn't even give stats since everything is normalized in it nowdays
@thick pagoda former (read: burned out) 5 time gladiator here. PVP in FF isn't anything like wow and not rly a focus of the devs like you might be hoping
While there are competitive PvP players since there are PvP seasons with rewards it's definitely not a main thing
the biggest issue is there isnt rly a competitive scene (that i have found) and NOTHING like arena combat
iirc most PvP matches in high level play are fixed by groups of people to maximize rewards fwiw
Awww
But there really is a tremendous amount of stuff to do in this game. Especially if you come at it with fresh eyes, rather than "is this like WoW".
^^^^
^^^^^^^
I'm sorry:<
I've... apparently spent the last 54 hours of playtime just crafting and gathering. And loved it, because it's not like "click button, craft good".
There's crafting rotations, gear to increase your efficacy, the ability to create high-quality stuff...
i've managed to put in nearly 2k hours and i've yet to hit my one year mark
noIdon'thaveaproblemiswear
Me @wow
lol @wispy shard im in the same boat as u man. spent past few weeks doing almost nothing but crafting and gathering, its so interesting
Okay so how about Gil making?
looks at my own playtime
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/594875567099346954/696493974235381850/image1.jpg
👀
lmao
Yeah, I started a new character because I rushed the MSQ and hated feeling rushed. I... uh... my Miner was higher than any combat class for days...
myst are u familiar with the goblin discord in wow?
Is THAT viable? Just getting a ton of money for no reason?
because people in this game are not nearly as careful with their money
@little walrus I am not
gil making i'd consider side content because generally people pay out the ass for the latest glamours
but generally you need crafters leveled for it
You need Gil to buy pretty stuff
if you are interested in manipulating markets and making money you can do it in this game
Stuff like this
👀 👀 👀 👀
!itemglam seeing horde guillotine
Like I said GLAMOUR IS THE REAL ENDGAME
I think that cost like 7 mils on release
Getting stacked off transmog sounds like a gamer moment to me
glamour = transmog, and yeah... people will pay absurd amounts
Wait
It is the only thing that matters in XIV
you can make money if you get serious about exploiting everyone when a major patch comes out, and there's stuff to craft. stuff to prep.
ive made small amounts just flipping markets
You're telling me
we have crafted gear to make to jump into raids
That I have to EQUIP the gear I want to look like instead of just altering the appearance?
You can alter appearance
@thick pagoda glamour = transmogs
The Collections Tab in WoW
Ah okay
in WoW you have a whole pane that shows you transmog
to show you what you've collected or not
here you dont
But I am told that XIV glamour is not as well done as WoW transmog
It's a fair trade off, because the gear looks better in XIV than in WoW anyway
@thick pagoda also crafters ARE a class... you BECOME a Blacksmith, your ability bar now has 30+ ABILITIES used to CRAFT gear. you dont go and "right click a few nodes" and "left click craft"
yea crafters in this game have a rotation.
Yeah, I was just gonna said, XIV clothing choice is 👌
and gear!
crafting in this game is NUTS and unlike anything ive ever seen
Hm
we have macros for those who want easier time
because we can figure out what you need to do
there are also discords just for crafting, and a simulation client to figure out without wasting mats
but you will need gathering
this discord is 🔥 with this downtime 😂
Crafting in XIV requires you to spend CP (crafter mana, this is refresh on every new attempt) on crafting skills to increase progress and/or quality
Progress needs to go 100% to produce a finished producy
Gathering's enjoyable because it's also unlike WoW. Rather than click node, receive good, there's also some rotations, some gear, you get to pick what you get out of the node, etc
Quality is needed to get HQ high quality items
and you need to increase quality to increase HQ chance because HQ gear has much higher stats than NQ gear
there is also durability?
yes
Yes
You can repair your own gear when you've leveled crafter classes!
While making sure you don't break your materials
forgot how to works in crafting
so it's juggling your points, durability, and progress while raising quality
It's such a small thing, but I was so stoked to discover that
@thick pagoda give the trial a shot tbh, if you just keep in mind this game is more of a story-focused adventure with a metric boat load of content to do. also nothing ever really becomes old, every dungeon (literally every dungeon) scales you and your abilities down to level
repairs are so good
and not in a broken, time-walking fashion
even for gathering you have to pay attention to alarms, if you want "timed nodes"
people use https://ffxivteamcraft.com/ or https://garlandtools.org/bell/
for alarms
and general looking up shit
teamcraft is useful caus that's the simulation crafter
cause maybe you're leveling and you're just not sure and you dont wanna buy shit
if you're max level crafter you dont have to simulate anymore, you just do it with macro lmao
unless you get fucked over by a badly timed excellent proc lmao
macro that gets excellent on the great strides BEFORE your byregots blessing 😿 😿 😿
Hello, new player here, how do i become a DRK (i saw him in the trailer and he look cool af)
reach level 50, and the HW story. it is in Ishgard
go to the Brume and look for a man in dark armor on the ground with the quest
thank u
you need to finish A Realm Reborn then go through some more quest between ARR and Heavensword
Heavensward Expansion Jobs: Dark Knight (Tank), Astrologian (Healer), and Machinist (Ranged DPS). These jobs start at level 30 and require ownership of the Heavensward Expansion and the completion of the level 50 main scenario quest "Before the Dawn".
Job Unlock Locations:
Dark Knight - Ishgardian Citizen at The Pillars (13,9), quest name is "Our End".
Astrologian - Jannequinard at The Pillars (15,10), quest name is "Stairway to the Heavens".
Machinist - Stephanivien at Foundation (8,10), quest name is "Savior of Skysteel".
does it take long for me to reach HW story?
depends on where you are at. HW is the first expansion, so it can take some time
depends on you
Im on Ul'Dah

assuming that, you are likely close to 15-20
im 8 (started yesterday)
add an hour and that's about the amount of time you're looking at
so yes, it may take some time, you need to complete the A Realm Reborn story first to access Heavensward
should i do most of the side quest on Ul'Dah or focus on MSQ
focuse on MSQ
Focus on MSQ
focus on MSQ
i personally would suggest focusing MSQ
and
to unlock content (mounts, dungeons etc)
skip
and return later for side quests?
if you wish
isn't the XP and Gil worth the trouble?
XP is not "that" good from side quests compared to other methods
not really. quest XP is kind of bad compared to things like duty roullete (which you will unlock later)
(generally when i play MMOs i try to do most of them for more Xp and gold)
sidequest rewards are generally laughable
the MSQ exp and the dungeons will give you enough to lvl up
except in shadowbringers where they give you decent leveling gear if you need it
yea the stormblood expansion has a lot of sidequests i have ignored too
are 99% actual literal side stories, some may reward gear however, which if you are struggling to find specific pieces may help
okay so forget completely about SQ
those things are like understanding the world and its people, it's not essential
just little amusements
some quest icons are red with a cross
(like this but red)
Back in 2.0 Sidequests where good source of money and xp, since then devs have uppdated exp and money gain from other activities which render
pretty much useless
what are those
and if its red?
You are to low level
you will need to compleat something to acces that quest
oh good
either low lvl or some other thing
You are probably seen the quests for unlocking Red Mage and Samurai, which require lv 50.
mostly low lvl
tbh im playing the free trial for now, im thinking of buying it in a couple of days
when you get to level 20, the game will start to help get you a mount.
take your time
It can also be a class restriction if the quest is red, IE you can't take this quest as current class
also reach max level in the trial 35 on any job
Play the trial as much as you want, it's a VERY generous trial.
Its roughly half the story form ARR.
can i buy a code and use it later? (from the SE store)?
^
Wait until you hit the level wall tho.
ill buy the complete edition for 20 euro

ill buy it in a couple of days cause its 50% off
You still have a LOT of trial ahead, take your time.
from 40 -> 20
20€ is super worth it from base game and all expansions
and ill keep the code for when im done with the trial
Once you apply code you also get 30days game time
yeah i know
20€ is super worth it from base game and all expansions
@young fjord
Which is why you should wait to apply it until you hit wall
As free trial have unlimited gametime
After you apply code you can not go back to free trial
yeah yeah
unless you make a new acc
i don't think so
good, and have fun
thank you guys ❤️
Also an important detail on how XIV works different than other MMOs: XIV focuses more on the jRPG aspect than the MMO one.
It's main focus is the single player story.
how do i make a ff14 account so its connected to my steam?
You need to make a Square Enix Account
FINAL FANTASY XIV専用サービス管理ページ「モグステーション」です。
You don't use your steam account to manage/login and play the game
You use a square enix account
If you bought the game of steam you simple use steam to launch the game client
Log into steam>Launch FFXIV>Use Square Enix account to log into FFXIV>Play game
can i pay through steam tho
you can use the steam wallet, yeah
@boreal aurora after some reading i learned that it is better to buy it on the SE store cause you can get it a looot cheaper (now its 20 dollars with all expans)
Bear in mind, the STEAM PC VERSION and the SE PAGE PC VERSION are not the same.
They are in a literal sense, but not on a technical one.
but same servers, right?
Yeah, same servers
so its about money... Steam -> Expensive & SE Store -> Cheaper
IMO I have only heard bad things from buying on steam, like account management, how when they get problems and ask square enix they like "naa fam, ask steam".
I have the SE client so I can't really say but it's what I have heard
I'd recommend the same, avoid Steam if possible.
Important piece of trivia: FFXIV Complete Edition is 20 Euros on SE Store right now
It's not that bad, bit requires an extra step for everything.
im buying that in a couple of days
That will work fine with the PC Trial, but not the Steam trial
i need to make a service account
but i dont have a cd key
how do i play the trial
There shouldn't be any step in account creation that requires a CD key
so is tanking anything like in wow>
Not quite
Question: who is that cool dude from the Shadowbringers trailer?
i made account but when i try to login ingame it says i need a service account
No. That's the stand-in for our character.
the dude fighting the angel thing?
o
yes
we are cool then
@glad field oh hoho dio
Jotaro
@boreal aurora Did you make sure to download the trial launcher?
Tanking is FFXIV is more planning, Tanking in WoW is more reaction
are you going to stand tere and not run away?
yes i installed trial on steam
In this game threat is called enmity
r/ffxiv: A community for fans of Square Enix's popular MMORPG "Final Fantasy XIV Online", also known as FFXIV or FF14. Starting with "A Realm …
Basicly one point of damage is one point of enimty, highest enmity gets aggro.
Tanks have abillities which boost this enmity generation
Heals it total heal/2=enimty
or something like that
Gotcha, is there a taunt like ability?
One thing to keep in mind is that FFXIV version of taunt is not actually a taunt, but it's provoke.
!action provoke
In WoW taunt force the enemy to attack you, provoke does not force enemy to attack you it simply puts you on the top the of enimty list
I think he means aggro management. In XIV currently there's no need for dps to reduce their aggro as tanks generate so much you are free to go full ham on the deeps.
@boreal aurora try checking your email for an account confirmation link from SE
we used to have aggro management but they got rid of that with the latest expansion
i see i see
One major difference in dungeon tanking compared to WoW is that in FFXIV we don't chain pull mobs, we wall to wall pull them.
We don't pull 2 packs, wait for a bit, then pull more.
We pull everything
Yeah, aggro management is entirely on the tanks now.
In most situations the DPS should never be able to out-aggro the tanks unless they just aren't trying
But in current content dps checks are tighter.
Thank you for registering your Square Enix account.
This email was automatically sent from Square Enix Account Management to notify you that your Square Enix account registration has been completed.
A lot of DPS classes have a ramp up time in thier damage, so doing many small pulls is generaly not recomended
But first, ASK your healer if they are comfortable with big pulls.
vice versa
experienced tanks pull as much as they can
Doing one pack at a time is not something experienced players does unless they are forced to due to dungeon layout or something
And be sure to use your mitigation. Their CD aren't long.
you pull everything all at once and use your damage mitigation cooldowns and debuffs on enemies
of course this depends on as was said having a healer that can handle decently sized pulls
Yeah, a new healer might panic and just let you die
@boreal aurora Not quite sure then. :\
I remember you having an account before, what happened to that one?
and (only sometimes important, but) having dps that do their job properly
In this game you can see who the new players are as they will have a sprout icon next to thier name
Do keep in mind that you are free to swap class/job at anytime
As we can be everything on one character
other thing to keep in mind is that all classes are fundamentally designed around still doing damage
there's no pure roles in this game
Yeah
Healers should use thier DPS abilities when they don't need to heal
They should not just stand AFK
nvm i figured it out
well yeah
everyone's goal is to do as much damage as possible while still keeping everyone alive, essentially
thats generally how it goes
Not everyone realizes that
The White Mage, pretty much a holy priest, have amogst the best burst damage AoE in the game in dungeons
some people neglect this, though unfortunately which is why i bring it up
Healer rotations are basically Classic WoW frost Mage with heals in between lol
Unless someone is undergeard, correct mitigation useage from the tank with little support from healer in form of a HoT or shield is normaly enough to keep them alive on 87% of the pulls
classic wow frost mage
Scholar is the Disc priest here
oh yes ofc
With a healing pet added
i wanna roll an astrologian
Astro is an enhancement shaman kinda
POGGERS I MAIN ENH SHAMMY
Astro is a healer, Ech shammy is dps
ik
Dancer then?
i play resto and eh shaman omegalul
what did yoy say about my SCH?
I would compare Dancer to a Demon Hunter, both high mobility with simple rotation/priority
astro used to give some fun buffs, but they removed it and now it just gives damage buffs to people depending on cards they draw (and your personal choice)
I miss those, but understand why they changed it.
it's still incredibly powerful
good astros are able to solo heal a bunch of the content in the game to boot
Astro us hardish to play tho
Astro have a lot of strong tools
The only thing they really lack is mana regen outside of a buff all healers get
it's I suppose id word it as busy
Thing about 14 before you start, you think you know what you want to play but when you actually play you end up doing multiple jobs
Mods can do that
where is option to pay with steam i dont see it
wait
Did you buy the game on Steam or the SE page?
you can have mods in ff14??
They're in a grey area.
You can but the devs don't approve.
i think i cant see it cuz i have trial account
ah
just wanted to make sure its a steam account
As long as you don't talk about them in-game or use them to harass others they're fine.
so like
They also hate dps meters
i like to use a wow addon that changes my entire ui to be cleaner and easier to use and dps/hps meters
oh, why?

You can customize the ui a lot, give it a spin.
you likely wont need a UI mod
No need for mods.
oh you can customize it using the in game systems?
yep!
oh cool!
System > hud editor
sweeeet
You can move and change their sizes and have presets.
cause like i like to have my hp/resource bar on my right of my cahracter anf the enemies on my left
Entire hus is cuztomizable
There's nothing you can't move iirc
mouseover macros are still okay to use
Always gonns be unoptimal
oh right right
Mouseover macros are fine in certain cases
Macros have an inherent delay to them that can't be removed.
thats a big no no here unfortunately
and they can only work in whole seconds
Eh
The only combat macro which really could be used it targeting macros, IE target party memeber, Cast ability.
Even so it's just with certain abilities
I've used mouseover macros for healing in raids and its fine
steam shadowbringers doesnt have discount anymore
ive gotten some close wipes from people who say "its fine" and then their macro delays / goes off on the wrong person
oof
but everyone has different experiences
when discount again on steam
there's hotkeys for each player to target based on a numbered list you can sort a bit

🤷♂️
ik mousovers make my life so much easier in wow cause i dont have to click to target alli cause wow doesnt have a tab target for allys
but i keep forgetting this isnt a "high push the hardest content as efficiently as possible" game
Hello, which server are considered mainly EU English speaking servers?
All of them except Moogle and Shiva
so whats the least popular tank?
Currently Warrior?
Currently in my experience it's Warrior
They all good tho
Tank balance is super even right now, though.
Damage difference between top/bottom is 2-4% and they all have similar mitigation tools for the most part.
Gunbreaker is the funniest so far.
Paladin>Dark Knight>Gunbreaker>Warrior in amount of savage clears
TL:DR tanks
Paladin: Two separate rotation you swap between, Team support
Dark knight: Resource management, Personal defense
Warrior: Generate and spender, self heals
Gunbreaker: Strong burst windows, plays like a DPS
@white sinew other MMOs sound like ARPG MMOs, this game isnt and is what is considered a "target based" combat style
why are warriors so unpopular rn?
Both it and Dark Knight have pretty simple rotations
@white sinew you could bind it to hotkeys like arrow keys on KB
Hold down left click
but if you want to aim the camera as you would in something like TERA or Wildstar, its not possible
Warrior is just....boring to alot of people
It didn't really gey many new things in the expansion
hmm i see i see. lemme guess its also the "easiest" tank?
The combat in this game is based on selecting a target and using abilities on your target, generally mouse-controled combat games will use "cone infront of player" type targeting
Next to dark knight yes
Pretty much, only difficulty comes in maintaining buffs and having enough gauge
i see isee
Warrior is good but not flashy compared to the others.
But them guaranteed crits tho.
thats old @thick pagoda
what video are u watching lul
They removed dps stancea
They have a JoJo stand now
IM SO SAD THATS WHAT MADE ME THINK IT WAS SO COOL IM SO SAD NOW
wait
they have a stand now???
And removed the damage reduction on tank stancea
Yep
Lv 80 ability
sign me righ the heck up then
!action living shadow
Watch the Job Actions trailer.
ive been watching uh

DE: https://de.finalfantasyxiv.com/shad...
whats his name
Larry?
larryzaur hasnt done current-patch videos
Its outdated lol
despirus
Anything before Shadowbringers release date is outdated
desp has, but you must be looking at old content
They removed stance dancing in Shadowbringers.
i watched a 2 y/o vido but thamriyell
so thats prolly it
god im so sad. but at least they get a stand waht in the world
It was cumbersome to deal with.
oh?
It really was just about maximizing burst aggro and then switch to DPS stance and hope your DPSes had a brain big enough to handle clicking Diversion
You still kinda have to toggle it on and off for high end content, to deal with swaps.
dragoon also looks really fun
Dragoon is lower personal dps, but very strong party buffs
poggers, support dps sign me up
and less stressful too
whats the least popular dps?
you glide through boss fights
Dancer is the defacto support dps.
on the floor
red mage looks cool too
What I see the least amount of people play is Monk
Monk according to savage clears
its rotation is mind numbingly simple
ew
Red is lowest damage of casters, but highest utility
Red mage got infinate instant cast battle rez
but who cares about damage per second when you are the rezmage
Parses on the right is amount of clears
and you look cool as fuck doing it
red mage is parsing #1 for style :^)
TRUE KAELAS
However, comeing from WoW, playing Monk is really fun imo
fair fair
As they have a lot of positionals
