WHM has a lot of baked-in Regen though, which is why you almost always want to go Noct with a WHM co-healer.

DRK had a lot more MP management than what it does currently.
You had a buff called Darkside which constantly Drained your MP but boosted your damage.
So you had to make sure you never ran out of it or you'd lose out on damage. IIRC, Delirium also used to give Blackblood (resource used for Bloodspiller/Quietus) instead of being a kinda-copy of Inner Release

gear won't be a problem. Your job quests and MSQ will hand out gear, and you can get a level 15 set for doing the Novice quests from the Smith. It's the only set of quests that look like this:

@mortal nebula It doesn't limit anything needed for trying out game. You can level up any classes, you have all time in the world because as long as you're on trial you don't have to pay sub. Free Companies are not "needed" if you have people to talk to outside of game, yeah it does give small boost to experience but it's kinda negligible for trial. So don't worry about things they limit and think about things that game has to offer.

Getting to level 35 won't unlock TOO MUCH and doesn't take too long either so you're not losing anything
Even to level 35. So if you're lower it's better to try out other races
Because as for classes - you can unlock bunch at level 10 and even more at level 15 when you can travel to other cities
So try to get character looks you'll like. If you buy the game and get to level 50 you get a bottle of Fantasia that lets you change your character looks completely without need to recreated it

the best that you can get that are buyable from a vendor are level 29, which can be bought at x10, y12 in Ul'dah, Steps of Thal.
