You can play all classes/jobs to max lvl on the same char, although I would recommend sticking with one since you just started to better get a grasp of the game, but if youre not into it you can change to another by going to their respective guilds

i've asked this question about ACT issue before, but no one can tell what the problem is.. Maybe i'll have better luck this time. My ACT won't update numbers unless i tab out. Overlay will remain static until i tab out and tab back in and it'll update for that specific second I tabbed out. Uploading logs after fight is still fine. I first thought maybe the overlay was the issue, but even without overlay, I tabbed out to check ACT, i can visibly see the ACT numbers being updated as I tabbed out. Any idea how to make the numbers reflect real time as the fight is going on?

just came back after not really actively playing since HW. looking to roll a new job (either tank or damage, i've decided), but having a rough time deciding which of the two roles. goal is to get into end-game and experience as much of the content as i can, savage and beyond. not really knowing how the meta is right now, any suggestions or classes which you'd suggest getting into? obviously i have to decide on something i enjoy, but narrowing down my choices would be nice.
i've been tanking a lot in MMO's lately, but I'm undecided whether I wanna go for that in XIV as well. unsure how they're all looking atm, how they play + how much they are in demand. obviously you can always find a group, but in case certain classes may be saturated because of them being new etc. i enjoy min-maxing and theorycrafting a lot, so complexity is not necessarily something negative to me.
been looking over some videos on classes, but still having a difficult time deciding even based on those. in terms of what i enjoy, generally speaking: it's always fun doing a pure damage rotation and try to push yourself to the top, but i also enjoy having the role of bringing a decent amount of necessary utility. i was considering paladin as a tanking class since, in their current state, they seem to be bringing a lot. but i'm wondering about their potential whenever your comfortable with content: basically, are they a "safe" choice but not optimal, or are they often (currently) a necessary / highly useful choice when tanking end-game content? or are all of the options viable.

All classes are fine in the endgame, whether they have a focus on personal damage like Black Mage and Samurai, or party utility like the Ranged physical DPS and Red Mage
The damage difference between best and worst DPS is only around 10-15% depending on the fight.

Marauder/Warrior is very simple as a starting tank
Gladiator/Paladin gets a bit more complex in the 60’s by getting a magic side-rotation in the mix

since complexity isn't a issue for you, i personally suggest an aesthetically pleasing job to you and go from there. You may switch around whenever you feel bored of the job :). If you have unlocked Palace of the Dead, you may also unlock the jobs and go into Palace of the Dead to try out the lv60 version of the job.

Sometimes it helps to lable your hotbars. Toggle "display hotbar numbers" in hotbars/Display
The main advantage of hotbar numbers is they allow you to move your hotbars around without opening your hud menu.

ok, I'm doing my crafting classes in a very part-timey way. I've got weaver to 47. So I do 9 ixal quests a day and claim the xp with my lowest crafting class. They other classes are all in the 24-26 range now. I use pixie quests to level my off classes from 70-80. Is this the most efficient way to do it or is there an even better way?

@robust magnet In terms of the image they’re aiming for PLD is the definitive tank. Protect the party and become a wall. Has a bit of heals to help as well. WAR is all about being the aggressor and cleaving everyone in the face. Which also counts as a basic description of their general game plan.

Nah. Promoting a class to a job happens relatively early. Finish the class quest chain at level 30 and clear a specific main quest and you’ll be able to unlock jobs.

Sticking with the main story quests gives good EXP. It takes maybe three or four hours to go from level 1 to 15 if you do nothing but main quests. Estimating from 1-30, I’d say 10-12 hours? Depends on a few things but that is also considering the cutscenes and stuff during the main story quests.
Once you have at least one class/job at level 30, leveling up alt jobs speeds up considerably.

It is not much, but it add up, plus you can buy the cheapest possible food, and you will still get the +3%
