for the level 70 craft it greatly depends on how much the prices of the materials and desired end product compares, though crafting it is vastly easier since you can just use Trained Eye and a bunch of progress skills.
the level 80 one requires a bit of melding and food, but usually has better profit margins

overworld mobs are much tougher in the expansions relative to the base game
at equal level you pretty much need to 1v1 them or you'll probably die unless you're a tank/healer
If you have any spare tomestones of Poetics you can spend them at Mor Dhona for i120 gear

Most guides out there @cerulean wigeon seem to say that you should level them in specific orders, due to some having cross class skills. That's old stuff, so just pick whichever you like and go for it. I've been doing Leathworking, goldsmith, carpentry, and weaver alternating every few levels, as it means I can make my own gear as I go up

If you're willing, you can also level up Blue Mage to 50 and do the Masked Carnivale for the hoard of first time completion allied seals and poetics

The Ghimlyt Dark
Those last three are story dungeons which should give them a better queue.

Here is a stupid question. I’m not seriously considering this, but I am curious. They sell a Retainer Jump Potion on Mog Station. So suppose you use one of those and then assign your Retainer a Job. It then starts back at level 1, thus making the purchase useless, yeah?

Tomestone gear can be "augmented", increasing the ilvl by 10 levels (and making it dyeable)
Requires buying an item and trading the gear piece and item to an augmenting NPC.
For example, to augment Ironworks gear from i120 to i130, you purchase with Poetics in Mor Dhona one Carbontwine for each piece of body armour + weapon, and one Carboncoat for each accessory
and then take them to Drake in Hyrstmill in the North Shroud to have your Ironworks gear augmented with them.

pld has a static looping rotation, warrior has a builder/spender rotation with keeping a buff up, drk is a gauge and mana management with a strong personal shield that when broken makes your next mp attack free and gunbreaker is the most complex one rotation-wise with 30s, 60s and 90s cooldowns constantly realligning in different burst windows

One thing I'll say up front is that, unlike WoW, a single character is not locked into a single job. So if you pick something you don't like, but don't want to start the game over, you don't have to.

Just reach level 10 with your first job, and complete the job quest, and you'll be able to change to any other job in the game (provided you meet the prerequisites).
